Do we have to use the luminous mysteries?

Are these required to be said? Why were they added so long after the originals? If they were meant to be said wouldn’t have our Lady included them in her revelation to St. Dominic?

Because, by his authority as pope, John Paul II chose to do so.

It is a pious legend that the Blessed Mother gave the rosary to St. Dominic in a vision.
