Do we know for a fact we are saved

I think you are 100% right. Before I accepted Jesus in my heart I was dead in my sins.
yes , tweety and if after you accept Jesus, as happened in the scriptual case of Saint Peter and the prodical son, you fall in deadly sin, and afterwards do not come to repentance, you remain dead in sin, apart from the Father, that is Catholic teaching.:)Peace,Carlan

I am aware and do my best to stay alive in Christ. And when I sin I ask for forgiveness.

I have never found a single solitary statement in scripture that says ANYTHING positive about another religion outside of Judaism and Christianity. On the other hand, there exists hundreds of warnings about false religions in one way or another. What part of the Gospel states that salvation is possible outside of the one True God or Christ? Point me to some scriptures or even Ante-Nicene writings that show that to be the case. Heck, as I recall they are more strident in this than I am.
Now remember, you are the one who said that Muslims were in heaven. That was your statement. You said heaven was populated with Catholics and Muslims. So you must know more than you are letting on to or did you not really mean that. You said that people would “realize” that. You seem very confident about who is in heaven. So why am I arrogant again? Because you started this by saying that heaven was populated with them. 😉
The Bible is about the One, True, Church. That Church is the CC. It says nothing about UMs going to Heaven. If Catholics didn’t believe that the truth is found in churches other than the CC, we would believe that you aren’t going to Heaven. Your church doesn’t have what we call “the fullness of truth” that is found only in the CC, but it does contain truth. We don’t deny that truth wherever we find it - Christian or non-Christian religions. If you deny the truth that is found in Islam, you necessarily deny the same truth found in your own religion. There are many people who are prejudiced against God’s Church (the CC) by what they are taught by others, many times by their parents. Do you know that God denies someone in this situation salvation, when that person follows the truth that is contained in his religion, even if it isn’t the fullness of truth? And what of those who’ve never heard of Jesus? There are many people in the world who’ve never been exposed to the Gospel. Do you know that God denies them salvation? Are you certain that the Holy Spirit never guides these people?

I don’t know of a non-Catholic Christian church that doesn’t have doctrine that contradicts the truth that is found in the CC. Does this mean that people who follow those false doctrines are damned?

I don’t deny that non-Catholics may be in Heaven.

You say that you don’t damn, but you do.

Come on Brian, you have closed up to what to what Kalt is really :(saying.Peace Carlan

You stated that Muslims were in heaven. Something that I brought up and your last post ignores.
Is there a single verse in the Bible or some form of Tradition from Ante-Nicene Fathers that says a single positive thing about another religion? I asked this question as well and it was unanswered.

I will address what you wrote but you did call me arrogant when you said the same thing first. True or not true?

As far as your content, do you believe that United Methodist is another religion? Do you believe that Methodism is on par with Islam?
If you deny the truth that is found in Islam, you necessarily deny the same truth found in your own religion

kalt said Muslims were in heaven first. I addressed that in the course of the conversation she called me arrogant. How do you do when people ignore what you write and call you arrogant? Seriously Carlan…how do you? 🤷

Again let me say, what Catholics believe about Islam,
The church teaches, and we believe that Muslims are included in the plan of salvation .
They claim the faith of Abraham and they adore the same God as we, our judge.
God created all of us to people the earth and we all share a commmon God who wants to s ave us all.

Thus the Church considers all goodness and truth found in other religions as "a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.

You, as a Methodist, are a Christian still separated from the Apostolic Church, Peace, Carlan

Hi Carlan
What specifically would a Muslim have to believe/do to go to heaven or to have the best chance at heaven in Catholic teaching?
You have to understand as a Christian that l that I have the belief that God has perfectly revealed himself in the Old and New Testament. I do not believe that he had an additional messenger who taught us things about His character or things that He desires of us. I do not believe that was needed. I also do not see any justification, biblical or historical, for believing that close enough is good enough. You know I love reading the Bible and I am open to something that shows that at judgement close enough or rejection of who Christ said He was is going to turn out ok. However, because you are obviously a nice person, I am up for talking about it.
Thanks:)

Not true. The arrogance is in damning other people. You say you don’t, but you do.

Methodism is not Catholicism. Methodism teaches false doctrines. You follow those false doctrines. Do you think that this means you are damned?

While your church teaches false doctrines, it does also teach truth. Like Methodism, other religions teach the truth.

You’re taking a fanciful story that was written to illustrate a point and are trying to say that I say that all Muslims are in Heaven, or that a single Muslim is in Heaven. I believe that my parents are in Heaven. I believe that the many people I’ve known are in Heaven. I know only that the Saints (declared such by the Church) are in Heaven.

You seem to want to belong to an exclusive group, and you want to be the one who determines inclusion.

Do you deny truth when it’s taught in other religions. Do you deny God the power to save anyone he chooses?

I’m not sure what you mean by “on par with Islam”. I think that the UMC teaches a doctrine that contains more of the truth than Islam teaches.

Being a Christian is no guarantee of salvation. We know that it’s the surest way, but it’s not a guarantee.

If non-Christians are not in Heaven, the Jesus, a Jew is not in Heaven. It’s not so long ago that many Christians thought that Jews were damned, too.

Acknowledging that “others” may be saved in ways unknown to us is not the same as saying that everyone is saved and that which religion you choose is irrelevant, or that every religion is as “good” as the next. The CC is the One, True Church, founded by Jesus. If you’re this concerned about salvation and being in the right place, why aren’t you Catholic, for Pete’s sake? 😃

If you want to make a point, break out the Bible or some writings of the early church Fathers that states other religions can go to heaven and then by what criteria. Essentially the question I asked Carlan. You just said “ways unknown”. How is that supposed to fly with me? Is the belief that Muslims can go to heaven infallible? What declared it so? Those are serious questions and not an attempt to debate FYI. I want to know. I have heard that all of the Catechism is infallible and I have heard that not all of it is I dont know so I am asking.
As far as why I am not Catholic, that would be off topic.

“More of the truth”

So…the Nicene Creed is simply “more of the truth”?
Lovely.

Look Bi , we know as Christians that God solved the big problem for all of us through Jesus’ death on the cross, But not all religions get that as yet,
I have no idea how God is going to handle it all, all I know is that we have a merciful Father, he is going to judge every human being individually, and if a Muslim through no fault of his own does not know the Gospel of Christ but who nevertheless seeks God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will, as they know it, through the dictates of their conscience–those too may achieve eternal salvation.
Remember I am not talking about people who know Christ and then reject him, but of people who do not know him through no fault of their own.
That is what the Church teaches about other non -christian religions. And I accept that, and trust God for all of us. God bless and give us all the Truth.:)Carlan

Carlan. Did God ever say anything like that? When?
Thanks

No, but we do know that we have a merciful Father, and he wants all those he created to come to the truth, and be saved. The Catholic Church teaches us that there is a purification process for all those who fall short of purification before we take our last breath& if that process is not completed before death, it continues after death in what we call purgatory. You as a Methodist may not call it that, never the less you will have to experience it anyway. That is so and my heart tells me , even tho’ God didn’t say so, that he will use that place of purification to enlighten all the sincere and Truth seeking holy ones of other religions, who have not rec’d the message of Christ. That is where they will get it, be enlighten and know the Truth. I believe that for non -Christians as well as our separated brethren who have not yet accepted the whole Truth, they will know it all through purification.( In my HO) :)God bless, and dear Lord enlighten us all, Carlan

Carlan
I have read this wonderful book quite a bit. Well, actually I prefer to listen to it on my IPOD 😃
I also love readng the ECF who like I said are very very strident against other forms of religion; including Judaism as you mentioned (not to get off on that specific topic although I certainly can). You have to appreciate that unless I have some reason, I really cannot see a reason to change my view on other religions. God and the topic of judgment and His view of other religions is spelled out time and time again. God’s mercy is meaningless without God’s judgment. People are thrown into the Lake of Fire. That is just a reality. Like I said, I think this is a rather new thing in Catholicism. I do not even see a reference to previous ECF writings or scripture in this but maybe I am not looking in the right place.
Thanks for your answer. I believe we are at an impasse.
As far as Purgatory, if you could point me to a patristic argument or something from the Deuterocanonical books that indicates that those who have rejected Christ or never became a Christian can go to Purgatory…🤷 I was always told Purgatory is NOT a second chance for those who are not Christians but correct me if I was told wrong.

Yes, more truth. Your church teaches more of the truth than Islam does, but does not have the fullness of truth that is found only in the CC. Your not being Catholic, knowing that the fullness of truth is found only in the CC and believing that only those who are in the right place will go to Heaven, is very much on topic.

You disagree with Catholic Church, the church founded by Christ, on the possibility that non-Christians may be saved. This much you’ve made clear. And yet you still say that you don’t damn people.

I think you might be one of those surprised people who get passed by the undersireables on the way to the pearly gates. 😉

Admit that you aren’t God and that you have no idea who is and isn’t going to be saved.

Actually, you’re the one who brought up the point - that non-Catholics are damned - so you are the one who has to prove it.

Show me in the Bible where it says that Muslims are damned to Hell. Show me where it says that UMS are saved. While you’re at it, show me in the Bible where God says it’s OK for Christians to reject His church and start their own, to deny the true presence in the Eucharist, to change other doctrines, and to attack His Church.

I assume you mean non-Christians. The word Muslim is not in the Bible so you would need to clarify.
Methodists do not deny the Real Presence…you DO know that…right?
But sure, I have the Catechism and Blue Letter right here, I can type out everything about hell and the judgment.

Carlan. Did God ever say anything like that? When?
Thanks
Brian,

There are many passages in the Bible that speak of God’s mercy. I would not try to impose limits on God’s salvation.

Here is one passage, often spoken of as an indicator of Gentile converts. It could apply to many. I will just quote this one passage for now (getting ready to go out in a few minutes.)
**
Isaiah 56:1-8 (English Standard Version)
Salvation for Foreigners
1Thus says the LORD:“Keep justice, and do righteousness, for soon my salvation will come,
and my deliverance be revealed.
2Blessed is the man who does this,
and the son of man who holds it fast,
who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it,
and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”

3 Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD say,
“The LORD will surely separate me from his people”;
and let not the eunuch say,
“Behold, I am a dry tree.”
4For thus says the LORD:"To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
who choose the things that please me
and hold fast my covenant,
5 I will give in my house and within my walls
a monument and a name
better than sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
that shall not be cut off.

6"And the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD,
to minister to him, to love the name of the LORD,
and to be his servants,
everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it,
and holds fast my covenant—
7 these I will bring to my holy mountain,
and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
will be accepted on my altar;
for my house shall be called a house of prayer
for all peoples."
8The Lord GOD,
who gathers the outcasts of Israel, declares,
“I will gather yet others to him
besides those already gathered.”**
