My husband, who is not Catholic, asked me this and quite frankly I don’t know the answer. Do we know where Heaven is?

Heaven isn’t a physical place. It makes no sense that the abode of beings entirely spiritual (God the Father, the Holy Spirit, the Angels) WOULD be a physical place - they are outside of space and time.

If it were bounded by a physical place then neither Christ nor Mary would be able to appear to the faithful and the Saints as they have many times.

…heaven is spoken of as the dwelling of God; for, although God is omnipresent, He manifests Himself in a special manner in the light and grandeur of the firmament. Heaven also is the abode of the angels; for they are constantly with God and see His face.
With God in heaven are likewise the souls of the just (2 Corinthians 5:1; Matthew 5:3, 12). In Ephesians 4:8 sq., we are told that Christ conducted to heaven the patriarchs who had been in limbo (limbus patrum). Thus the term heaven has come to designate both the happiness and the abode of just in the next life. The present article treats as heaven in this sense only.
"Some are of opinion that heaven is everywhere, as God is everywhere."

Jesus told us “The kingdom of Heaven is near at hand.” I think it is literally true. Just as a baby in the womb is in the world but only has a limited conception of his “world”, so we, when we die, will realise that we have been oblivious to the reality of our existence.

Heb 12:1-2 “we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses”

Scott Hahn, in The Lamb’s Supper: The Mass as Heaven on Earth says,** “The Mass–and I mean every single Mass–is heaven on earth.”** Literally.

Hahn goes on to say, “Now heaven has been unveiled for us with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ … Jesus Christ Himself says to you: ‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me’ (Rv. 3:20).”

Would your husband read the book? It is really good.

Thanks so much for the info. My husband was reading something about the Ascension. He got to the part where Jesus was taken up into Heaven and assumed that “up” indicated that Heaven was a physical place. You have to understand, my husband was raised with no religion in his life at all. He just might read the Scott Hahn book. I will try and find a copy at the bookstore. Thanks again.

There is good evidence in the Bible that Heaven does have physical attributes to it - check out the book “Travel Guide to Heaven” written by a Catholic but its for all Christians. Its a really fun read and EWTN as well as many Christians have loved this book and given it great reviews - its really fun and very interesting…

Heaven is, among other things, a physical place by virtue of that fact that bodies are there. The presence of bodies necessarily implies space. Eventually it will include lots of bodies, we hope.

Where this place is in relation to other places is not something we can know or understand at this point. We can say that where the bodies of Jesus, Mary, et al are, there is heaven.

Go the whole hog whilst you’re at it and see what the late Great John Paul II had to say about the reality of Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.

It is wonderful reading and I am sure it will answer all your questions.
