Do we live in a miserable and corrupt world? How would we know?

Do you think this generation is wicked? We have had some good popes, though hit so hard with the clergy abuses. The warfare is not the worst, though the mass murders seem to be unleashed like never before.

I just ask because , i’ve wondered before what it meant when Jesus said his generation was an evil one. Can one be more than than others, or other pure?

Everygeneration thinks itself corrupt and looks back at generations pastthrough a rose colored filter. Itspart of the human condition. We either think we ourselves are evil people, or we think everybody around us is.

Redemption tells us that life has a Divine purpose, and that life is therefore worth living, but it does not address whether or not this life is miserable and corrupt.

I think it was Leibniz who said something like the perfect God creates the most perfect world creatable. This was metaphysical optimism. I think the point is that, if this is *indeed *a miserable and corrupt world, it’s the ***best ***miserable and corrupt world that there could ever be, because God created it, and if God could have created a better world, then He would have.

I think you can live in a world that has Divine purpose as you say, and *still *be in a miserable corrupt world. The two are not mutually exclusive due predominately because of Free Will.

I don’t think that helps but there it is. 😊

To which I will add: that even if a world is miserable and corrupt, hope is still a virtue. 🙂
 
I think that the only way to know if we live in a corrupt world is to know what the world was originally like. We don’t have the world’s original state, if it were ever any different, so we can’t say that the world is corrupt except within some kind of revelation. I think that the world is pretty miserable though, and we can tell simply by living day by day and watching the news, and visiting mental hospitals among other things.
 
My goodness, what a sad way of looking at the beautiful world God created for us. Since the time of Adam and Eve eating of the forbidden fruit, this world has been miserable and corrupt. As a literary studies major, I have read a great deal of old world literature and have found that societies have always had a miserable and corrupt culture within. There have always been murderers, thieves, adulterers, homosexuals, prositutes, pedifiles, etc., and there always will be those kind of people in our societies. However, those people live in a spiritual destitution without the promise of salvation that God sent Jesus to for to give.

Instead of feeling sadness for the world we live in today, rejoice in the fact that Jesus is your personal Savior, and He is coming back soon for all of us to live with Him forever in His house. Spread the Good News with everyone you meet and pray for them. Pray for those who are lost and without God’s grace and mercy. If your prayers can save just one of those lost, Heaven will rejoice.

Know that with every sunrise and sunset, with every ebb and flow of the tides, with every breath you take, with every step you make, God is in control if you give all your worries and concerns to Him for Him to bear. Have peace and joy in this knowledge, and faith in your belief in the powers of God the Almighty.

May God bless you and keep you all the days of your life from now until eternity! Shout “Hallelujah, Amen” in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!

Some people are miserable,and some are corrupt. The majority are neither. What has changed is the instant transmission of miserable or corrupt events through the media. As a historian, I must conclude that these times are no better ,or worse, than any other.

I’m surprised with above view relative to these times and the nature within the grab and go culture. Esp with hundreds of years in Euro traditional ways.
