I think so, along with Saint Anthony Mary Claret
The death of the just: Death will reach everyone, the good and the bad; but the destiny of each one is quite different. The just man sees himself in this valley of tears as a prisoner, serving a very hard term. He considers himself a slave in this world, suffering an extremely distressing servitude. He regards himself a sailor caught in a horrible storm. And as death means an end of his confinement, an end of his slavery, and is the port of his salvation, he ceases not to cry with David, “Woe is me that my sojourning is prolonged!. . .” (Ps. 119:5). He ceases not to ask with the Apostle, “. . . Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?” (Rom. 7:24)
–The Golden Key to Heaven, by Saint Anthony Mary Claret

looking left & right, seeing TV, reading newspaper, I only see miserable stories worldwide about the 7 billion persons currently inhabiting the earth :(…

We have corrupted this earth with the aid of the prince of this world, it’s not a hospitable place anymore, it’s second to hell, it’s full of discrimination, violence, lying, adultery, etc http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon13.gif…

We have only one hope left, JESUS second coming ASAP to take us to the His realm where the true spiritual happiness is :gopray2:…

This world has always been miserable and corrupt, it isn’t something new. From Nero, to Hitler, to Chairman Mao, there is nothing new under the sun.

I think you may have answered your own question. 😉 But yes, look around, turn on the television, talk to people – it’s pretty bad.

NOW this post is funny.
Its perception, and this tells it well.
A father sets on the front porch with his son, and a family pulls up to the house.
the father gets out and tell he is moving into the area, he comes from a tough town, the people all are pitted against each other, and they fight all the time. Hate of each other is a past time. He asks, what is the communty like? the father says, you just described it.

A short time later, a man pulls up, and says he too is going to move in to the area, what is the town like and its people. Where he came from all are like family, they help each other, and treat each other as Family, living as one big loving caring community…

the father says, you just desscribed it Here to a T, hope you can join US, and let me know if I can do anything or be of any assistence. May we come to be friends and part of what you speak of…

After a short time, the son asks, FAther, how can it come to be that you say respond to both as thats both the way it is here. and the Father says, how they perseve it to be there, they willl do the same here, or anyplace.

sorry people, you have a bad attitude. Stand against what is wrong, but be an example of what it should be. Words mean nothing in the face of the example you set.

its more so the people in the US have come to be complacent, and non apprciative, they have had soo much and live in such luxury, living on the fat of the land, they now are delusioned to what is wealth and not wealth.
A huge family was once recognized as a rich person, today that is attacked by the evil of greed, lust, and acceptance to leaders who say they want the children murdered so we can increase our hoarding for ourselves.
mother treasa said we are the poorest nation, and she was right. priorites messed up…

I am the one lone dissenter at this point; the world isn’t a misserable place. Sure bad things happen and people do bad things, but there is also good. The quote you give is the main reason why I responded as I did. You have people looking at life and walking about, moping about how aweful they have it, and how terrible life is. Life isn’t a prison sentence, but I can convince myself it is if I am so negative that nothing good has any effect on me and I am unwilling to do anything about the problems I see.

The world indeed contain good, and this life is worth living, yet I think that this life is miserable and corrupt compared to life everlasting.

No…remember we are not waiting for Jesus to return on a cloud of glory…God is waiting for us to return ourselves as the very glory of God.

Practice kindness whenever possible…it is always possible.

I think the world is unnecessarily corrupt and miserable. I think that if everyone lived their life according to the teachings of Jesus, we could all have happy, pleasant lives.

For all that’s wrong in it, the world is fundamentally good because it was always intended to be good.

You could compare anything to perfection and conclude that it is corrupt and miserable. That doesn’t say anything about the world and the life we live in. What heaven is like is irrelevant to the state of earth.

Yes, but there is also much good. We should not focus only on the bad and make ourselves miserable. Nor should we only focus on the good and ignore the problems. To be realistic, one must recognize both.

I strongly disagreed because… yes the world is corrupt… but miserable… that I think is primarily driven by emotion… we can be/should be in control of our emotions.

I may be miserable now and then, briefly, but not much and certainly not all the time. I love life. I see the glass have full and… order another…

There are over 7 billion people on the planet and more than ever before have the basic necessities (on a percentage basis). Technology and globalization may have some negative effects on us but for the world it is a Godsend. Hopefully, it will continue to keep getting better faster than it keeps getting worse.

I agree…the world is not miserable-people are miserable because they want everything their way, right now and everything must always go the way they want it.

The world isn’t miserable, we are drama queens.

Right, and everybody wants to tell everybody else how to behave and what to do… what ever happened to freedom.

Remember Maslow’s (Sociology 101) hierarchy of needs pyramid from basic needs (food, water , shelter) to the top “self actualization”. What he failed to see was that rather than move up the pyramid, most people would just stay in the lower end of the pyramid and buy a bigger house, a nicer car and become obese… I suppose after starving for 50,000 years or so it’s logical that we would gorge when we have the chance… people need to be inspired…

I think if you focus on the bad-then it will seem bad.
Good news does not make good headlines. If things were presented more balanced by the media perhaps things would seem better. But I agree that an ‘anything goes’ type of lifestyle had got to go. Everything does not have to be published, and some papers are Very graphic.

The kingdom is for here and now, not just for after we die. It’s but an attitude shift (“be attitude”) away from where we are now. :choocho:

Take Jesus at His word for the extreme things He says, rather than use the intellect and fear to water them down. “Oh He didn’t mean to actually become perfect because that’s impossible,” for example. Or "I know He said the greatest is the one who serves, but … but … " :whacky:

Be like a child. Dare to dream, and dream big. Society stole your dreams, but Jesus has paid the price to buy them back for us. :heaven:

This world is only miserable and corrupt when it is that way in our perception. Do destructive and sinful things happen? Yes. But to a person who has entered the kingdom, it is a rich and wonderful land of beauty and imagination; one where we truly live in abundance like Christ told us He came for us to do. Some think that “abundance” means you have lots of stuff; actually that’s bondage not abundance, as the poor Rich Man who walked away from Jesus demonstrated. Abundance just means that we have what we need to do what we need to do right now. I’m sitting in a comfortable chair in a climate-controlled building, plenty of food and water within 100 feet of me, typing on a computer having fellowship with people all over the world on an Internet. Nobody in Jesus’ times could have imagined abundance like that.

Yes we do. More like a “Heck Ya!” answer. Just watch the news, read the paper, look at what people do and say on the internet, and just look at the world around you. Thanks to Adam and Eve, the world is extremely imperfect and will never be perfect. It’s not just fouled up in terms of war, poverty, hunger, homicide, etc. but its also messed up in terms of bullying, discrimination, greed, lust, pride, hatred, blasphemy (i can go on forever). Obviously thery aren’t going away, but I think its how you deal with them that will make all the difference. Just pray to God, Jesus, Blessed Virgin Mary, the Saints, whoever, and ask them to help you deal with reality and still live out the faith (something that I myself need to start doing, or get back to doing).

For all that’s wrong in it, the world is fundamentally good because it was always intended to be good.
Indeed, God did create a fundamently good world that is intended to be good. The selfishness of Eve and Adam was the first corruption and the start of misery.

Since then, we live in a miserable and corrupt world and we must battle against it.

I believe it is correct to say that if and when ENOUGH people truly decide to follow Christ and work to do God’s Will on earth as it is in Heaven, then we will see misery and corruption disappear.
