Do we pray in the name of Mary?

A Quaker friend of mine told me that Catholics made the sign of the cross and said “In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and Mary.” I have been Catholic for 16 years and never heard anyone say that. Was I wrong in telling him that no true Catholic made the sign of the cross in that form?
 
While I would not have told your friend that “no true Catholic” makes the sign of the cross in the manner he proposed – it is possible that a true Catholic could be sincerely mistaken about the proper form – you are correct that the traditional sign of the cross is not prayed in the name of Mary. Indeed, the form the Quaker suggested would imply equality between the Trinity and Mary, something Catholics do not believe.
