Do we try to become holier than the Church?

Highland is building a Chapel for Exposition.
The Perpetual Adoration Chapel has been open at Holy Spirit Highland for at least six months.
👍
When I have been there it has been “crowded” (at least 3 other adorers present).

suggest you start another thread for age for first confession and other issues related to sacramental preparation, CCD etc. If this thread is about Eucharistic Adoration, you will be much better served if you stick to the topic. You will also be much better served in your parish efforts to address this situation of you stay on topic. This meeting you mention will not be productive if it is used to air grievances on other issues.

If the parish cannot come up with enough committed people to have extended hours of adoration, then the Blessed Sacrament may not be exposed, or the hours must be severely limited. yes, lay leaders can organize the sign-ups, do phone reminders, publicize the program, and give witness to the tremendous good fruits, but the guidelines on how the exposition and reposition are done, where, and when must be adhered to. Your lay coordinators must be able to assure your pastor that you will have at least two adorers at all times (4 or more is preferable since you have less likelihood of having to find substitutes).

If there is a group in the parish who acts as a clique in this matter, or who views having the chapel open as a private convenience, your pastor probably wishes to address that attitude as well. Why not work with the pastor, rather than using this issue to initiate an adversarial relationship? this could pay big dividends when it comes to dealing with the other issues that arise.

Our Pastor wrote a letter to the Cardinal because he says we are not having exposition properly. Then proceeded to put a book with rules in the chapel for all of us to read. With rules such as two adorers per hour etc. etc. So because we do not have this for each hour we are not following the rules.
A letter from the Cardinal sent to our pastor stated that exposition is really for orders not parishes. But then I saw a letter from the desk of Cardinal Maida promoting exposition in parishes. Interestingly enough though when some people called down to the diocese the letter sent to our parish is authentic.

It seems there has been a misunderstanding. Initially, adoration was done by those in religious communities, (convents, monastaries). The Church has for many years now given the faithfull the opportunity to have adoration in their parishes.

Since there has been confirmation that Cardinal Maida promotes adoration, the laity needs to get together and discuss the situation with your priest.

One thing to keep in mind. The USCCB strongly encourage that 2 people be with our lord at all times.

It would be very sad if the opportunity to be with Our Lord were to be lost in your parish.

. Apparently, the way this is being approached is to tell the 2nd grade parents that they have the option of having their child go to confession before receiving their First Communion. If the PARENT does not feel that their child is mature enough to go to Confession, then they can go to First Confession in 4th grade.
That is so wrong it’s beyond words.

First of all, the parent can bring their child to Confession any time after the 7th birthday.

Secondly, where does this parish council get off changing the Church’s teaching on what is required for the Sacraments???

Who gave them that authority???

The maturity and reason requried for Confession in the Western Church is actually LESS than that required for Communion.

So if the child is not mature enough for 1st Confession, the BY DEFINITION, they are not mature enough for 1st Communion.

If a parent wants to hold their child back from the Sacrament of Reconcilliation, that’s fine, but they don’t make their First Communion until then too.

Just to clarify…it’s not the parish council, but the DRE and Pastor who are making this “option” of confession before First Communion. Many on the parish council are in disagreement with this, and have been trying to change it for years. What I found is that the Pastor and DRE are able to justify doing things the way they are by “allowing” children to go to confession before First Holy Communion, but only if their parents want them to. I agree. If they are not “mature” enough for First Confession, then they certainly are not mature enough to receive Jesus at First Holy Communion.

Toni,

How’d your meeting go?
The meeting was interesting.
A canon lawyer showed up from out of state and told the priest that the was Exposition was being done was correct. He said maybe Cardinal Maida was misinformed very charitibly of course. He agreed with a large group of people present to go with the leaders of Adoration to meet with the Cardinal that is if they can get an appointment. The meeting was peaceful but the canon lawyer was a God send.
So we will continue to pray and see. We have till Holy Thursday.
Please continue to pray.

That is unbelievable!! About the canon lawyer coming to the meeting!!! God works in mysterious ways. You can be assured of my continued prayers on this. I may even make my way over there to make a visit with Our Lord in your Adoration Chapel.

Yes it was quite a miracle. I am still not sure how he got there because he flew in but to show up at our parish. Yes God does work in very mysterious ways. Hopefully he is working with the priest as well. I offered some of my time up for him today. So hopefully…
