This has been floating around my school for about a week. I think it was sponsered by my schools Campus’ Crusade for Christ, but I am not sure. But people are wearing “I agree with Jens” shirts and the school has put banners all over the place saying “I agree with Jens” so I just wanted to post this to see what you guys thought…
Do you Agree with Jens?
I believe in:
GODS LOVE
The powerful, presistant and unfathomable love of one true God, in the persons of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for each of us human folk…
One Hope
Expressed perfectly in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who entered into human history, fully God and fully man, showing us a God who is holy and perfect, unbounded in power, who compassionately knows our suffering…
The Invitation
Who calls for us to live our whole lives in an all-consuming, passionate, and life-defining relationship with our Ceator…
The Lost
a relationship we’ve thwarted because we are all lost and guilty of wrongdoing, distanced by our spiritual poverty from the God we were meant to know…
The Word
but I believe that God nonetheless calls out to us now, and I believe the Bible is the infallible and completely inspired Word of God to us…
The Redemption
it speaks about Jesus, crucified to bear the punishment of our sins, and who then rose from the ded, announcing to us that through Him we could find the victory of God’s life over our spiritual death…
The Promise
so that by the Holy Spirit, all who come and put their trust in the Lord for their whole lives will find a restored relationship with God, a new relationship with the world, forgiveness for their sins, new life in the present, and hope in the life to come, by God’s amazing grace to us, and we will be with Jesus on the day He returns…
Just like he said.
More then just a creed, more then a system of beliefs, but my hope and all that I am
So what do you think?

EDIT opps I meant to put this in the water cooler

It’s an attempt at “mere Christianity” with an Evangelical spin. It’s not offensive to Catholics, but it doesn’t inspire anything in me except the feeling that I’m supposed to agree with every word of it in order to be thought a Christian. We already have a creed, I don’t see any need for a revamped, generic one that says very little about the basics of true Christian beliefs and relies so heavily on personal experience and sensibility.

Thats a great response della. I was wondering about it because our Campus Crusade for Christ does not allow Catholics to join so I was hesitant to say anything about it incase it had some anti-Catholic underlynings… But you are right we already have a creed, that defiently has no need to be revamped.

Catholics need not apply, huh? So then, why are they going out of their way to sound so generic? Or don’t they think Catholics believe the things listed in “Jens?” (What does Jens stand for, btw?) I think that’s a couple of things someone should ask them, don’t you?

And if they use the writings of C. S. Lewis to support this watered down version of a creed, ask they why Lewis included Catholics in his definition of Christian and why they shouldn’t be grateful to a Catholic, J. R. R. Tolkien, for Lewis’ reverting to Christianity? That is, if you can them to respond to your first question.

Haha, I felt the same way when I was told that all Christian Denominations were allowed but Catholics. In fact they took back the flyer they gave me when they found out I was Catholic  Jens is the persons name, I dont know who he/she is, which is weird because its a small college and I had thought I knew everyone out here. They defiently dont feel Catholics are christian, so they would not expect a Catholic to, “agree with Jens”.

Like I said the campus has gone nuts over this thing. There are banners hanging out of peoples dorms saying “I agree with Jens” and people are wearing matching shirts that say the same thing. It was in our school’s newspapers and there are flyers posted all over campus with just, “Do you agree?” on it…

Unanswered question: Who is Jens?

DaveBj
Its someones name who goes to school here. Like I said I think it was someone who is in the Campus Crusade for Christ program but I am not sure. I thought it was an abbreviation for something else originaly, but the flyers on our cafeteria’s tables has an email address that we can email him/her and the persons name at the bottom.

So, there is someone who is supposed to answer questions. I’d email him/her and ask some pertinent questions and see what kind of response you get.

Also, if your college is a secular one, how is it they are allowed to exclude certain students from the CCFC based on one’s faith? Isn’t that discrimination? Or doesn’t it count if you are Catholic?

My question exactly. How is this violation justified? I bet if anyone decided to challenge this position legally the CCFC would get a comeuppance. This is bovine excrament! Not that I’d personally even want to be a part of this group.

Why don’t you post the email address so’s we can make inquiries?

Like most things, I assume it doesnt count because I am Catholic  But I dont think it is an official school program. They are allowed to use our student lounge and cafeteria for their services, (they hold “informal” services at school every week  ) and Bible study called the listening post and all their posters and flyers just say approved by the student body. So I dont know if it matters but other then being approved by the university they are not affiliated with them in anyother way.

Someone make me up an email regarding this persons little tact and I will send it. I really dont want to fight about not being allowed in, It was three years ago and I have already forgot about it. I guess they have opened up a lot, meaning they are more welcoming but they dont welcome new or different ideas, if you come you come to “learn” what they want to teach and I am happy with my beliefs. But I will send an email, I just dont know what to say. My new work out shirt however is a white t-shirt with “I agree with the Apostles” on it, so thanks to who ever came up with that Idea

I have a friend who I lift with at the school gym, I will ask if Jens represents the CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ)

Approved by student body does not mean much, it might just mean they are allowed to pass it around campus not indorsment of [by the the campus]…

If you REALLY want to push some buttons wear a Tshirt that says “I agree with the POPE”.

Or perhaps one like I have that says, “I love my German Shepherd”.

Little update with this.

I talked to my buddy who I thought was a part of the Campus Crusade for Christ about who Jens is. Turns out he is not part of it he is part of a different group, “pay setters” or something like that (I dont know if that is it but that is what it sounded like). He said that there are three Christian groups on campus (Which I did not know) Campus ministries - which are the ones who use the cafeteria for services and bible studies, Campus Crusade for Christ and then his “Club” (I didnt know what to call it).

He said that Jens is a student at a different school who is a part of the Campus crusade for Christ (I dont know if it is a National group or just a state group, I had never heard of it before I got here). He said that all three groups believe roughly the same (which I didnt ask what their beliefs were, I didnt want to get into it) but each is for a different type of person. His groups is mainly for people who dont go to church and just want to study the Bible, Campus ministries is for older people who are Lutheran and or Methodist and Campus Crusade is for college kids who do go to church and want to hang out with Christians of common beliefs.

So long story short, Jens is a member of Campus Crusade for Chirst, but goes to a different school - Which is about 3 hours away.

BTW he didnt say anything about my “I agree with the Apostles” Shirt- Must not of got it.
