We have the usual complexity which reason (science) throws our way:
Geneticists believe that there must have been a pool of human beings that are the forebears of our species. This is also logical if God used evolution as a tool through the billions of years of our planet’s development (it’s only a long time to US – not HIM). Which I of course, I believe. I don’t think God created fictional fossil and genetic evidence to throw us off. Clearly no species could successfully propagate and reach a point where there were only two individuals – male and female – and then as their next trick – propagate successfully to the 7 billion plus people we are today.
But this does NOT contradict that there was an event where human beings disobeyed God – Adam and Eve or an entire tribe of early humans, thus resulting in our separation from God and original sin tainting us all. SOMEBODY offended God and I don’t think any of us think it had anything to do with an apple.
The universe is about 14 billion years old and our planet about 4 billion. The God of Creation clearly has a plan for salvation that human beings cannot possible conceive. Christians, who believe in the saving power of God made man in Jesus, just can’t know how long it took – or which acts of individual sin – brought us to the cross. Genesis is a human attempt to describe the work of God. We can’t be literalists, because God can NOT be reduced to words, nor the human mind rise to comprehend His mind.
Why are you trying to line up the whole theory of evolution with what God’s Word says? Does God agree with you, that you can discard some bits of the Bible and throw out others when they bring conflict to what science says happened? Jesus Himself quotes God in Matthew 4:4 "But He answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”
You are now at enmity with God when you say “…we can’t be literalistis, because God can NOT be reduced to words…”
You try to explain away things God’s Word says He did that you cannot take at face value. God populated earth in 6 thousand years. Not billions. You cannot comprehend how God did this? How do you then comprehend the concept that God created Man from the dust of the earth? This is why God says in Isaiah 55:8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts"
Humility will drive you to a place of wonderment at the awesome power of God.
If you say “The God of Creation clearly has a plan for salvation that human beings cannot possible conceive” you are saying that God has provided salvation, planned it for us but did not make it understandable to us? How can we avail ourselves of His Grace and salvation if we are unable to conceive or understand it? In fact that’s why the Bible has to be taken literally, from Genesis to Revelation. If you don’t believe it you will not be able to understand what you need to do to be saved. The truth and simplicity of the Bible will escape you because of your lack of faith and trust in God.
You say: “…just can’t know how long it took – or which acts of individual sin – brought us to the cross.” The sin of disobedience to God that Adam and Eve committed in the garden was the individual sin that brought us to the cross. This is not a mystery. We tend to view sin in a way that is not scriptural. A lie is a little sin. Murder is a big sin. But does God view sin that way? Can we enter into his presence in a state of sin that in our eyes are minor sins? Who will answer this question for you? Search the bible and nowhere will you find God making a reference to big and small sins, or mortal and venial sins. That is man’s concept not God’s. Romans 6:20 “For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
There is one unforgivable sin. That is the sin against the Holy Spirit.
You say: "…This is also logical if God used evolution as a tool through the billions of years of our planet’s development (it’s only a long time to US – not HIM). Which I of course, I believe… " What are you basing your belief on? “if God used evolution” To say this you are trying to mesh the theory of evolution with God’s Word. What if God didn’t use evolution. Is it still logical? If not, what are you left with? There are lots of problems with your way of viewing God and His plan for redemption. The single, important theme which God is giving us in the bible is that we are in a fallen state. Dead in our sins. We need to repent and believe in Jesus Christ. His blood pays for our sins and we can be reconciled to God. Simple. You cloud the truth and miss the whole purpose of God’s Word. Forget anything that takes you away from the literal Word of God. The theory of evolution which is only a theory, unproven requires faith to believe in it. So does God’s Word. It requires your faith to believe that God’s Word is the truth. Choose which one you will believe. But don’t try and believe both. Because 1 of them is a lie. Have you read the Bible? If not I would get started, beginning at Matthew. Then tackle the Old Testament.
