Do you believe in an upper-world that controls and governs us?

I have an incredible spiritual awe that such an upper-world exists. What do you think?

I call the “upper-world” heaven.

God is our King and governer.

He does not control us. We are free to choose to be governed.

Look at how the world evolved over the past 150 years. How could such extremely fast social and psychological change take place without the world crashing?

I’m not suggesting that God controls our behavior. Yes, we are free to choose.

What do the changes in the world in the past 150 years have to do with the upper world?

Re bold above: The OP title suggest he does unless you define upper-world as something other than what I did. If the upper-world is not heaven, then it neither controls us nor governs us.

I do not believe in what you described. I do not think Heaven is a “world” and it certainly does not control us. We control whether or not we make the choices that will allow us to go to Heaven. God could control us, but decided to give us free will. If He controlled us, the world would be a much better place! If I thought something was controlling us, my first thought would be why we were being controlled in such a terrible way. EX: abortion, suicide, molestation, sexual promiscuity. UGH, what an awful thing the “upper world” would have to be to control our society towards such things!

I believe the upper-world controls and guides our world, not us per se. I believe that technology flows from the upper-world.

You should read Fr. Stephen Freeman’s (an Orthodox priest) book called, “Everywhere Present, Christianity in a one-storey universe”.

He has this awesome teaching on the difference between a one-storey and a two-storey universe. The reality is that the universe is one-storey. The problem of Christianity today is that everyone believes in a two-storey universe, that is there is “a man upstairs”. The heresy here is that we think God lives somewhere separate from us. To refer to God as “the man upstairs” brings that connotation. The truth is that there is only a one-storey universe. God lives within His creation and among us. He is not “the man upstairs” but rather a caring and loving God who is ever present in our midst.

I believe in a deeper reality but i don’t describe it as an “upper world”.

Well, the prophet Daniel spoke of the angelic wrestling that took place over Persia between the angel ‘over’ Persia and the archangel Michael.(Daniel 10:12-14)

This concept of ‘princes’ or fallen angels having authority over the nations is found in several places of the OT, and in the writings of the early Church Fathers.

The apostle Paul speaks of us as wrestling against principalities and powers, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Eph. 6:12).

The apostle Paul states that Satan is the 'prince of the power of the air" (Eph. 2:2).

These ‘spiritual forces of evil’ are the true enemies of the human race (I did not say UFO’s),
according to St. Paul, and we are in a spiritual battle of faith, hope and love against them for the salvation of souls.

God’s peace.

Your question is too vague. Do you mean do we believe in the God of our Catholic faith who created all things in the universe and preserves them in existence and orders all things to their final end.? " Upper - world " sounds a little trendy. We aren’t dealing with a space oddesy here.
