After seeing some old footage of the Jonestown massacre yesterday, yes, there is a special hell for men who get children to commit suicide.

The truly disgusting thing is, it was the parents who administered the poison to their children, then killed themselves. The camp had a few drills even before the final event, practising suicide, and the people stayed! I can’t understand, I honestly can’t. I know he limited how people could travel to get out and such. And Cong. Ryan is the only congressperson (to my knowledge) ever killed in the line of his duties.

I voted yes. To clarify, i don’t believe that hell is a place where God wishes us to be tortured for being naughty. God’s love is infinite as is His mercy. Hell is where we CHOOSE to go if we choose a life (now and eternal) without God. He will not force us to join Him in heaven…
Ditto this.

Hell is something we willfully choose not some punishment of an unjust God on an ego trip as some make it out to be.

God will not force himself on anyone, He’s a Gentleman. If we don’t want to be with Him, he allows us to make that choice.

So, yes, I believe in Hell as much as I believe in Heaven, and how can you have one without the other?

No, it is consistent with the stream of Judaism of which I am part. I am a Reform Jew, some believe in an afterlife and probably about as many don’t. It is not required to believe in a certain way on this topic to be a Jew.
Well that’s a whole other can of worms entirely now isn’t it;)

I voted yes. I love the answer I got in RCIA: “We know that there is a hell, but we do not know if anyone is there”

I have Catholic relatives who attend weekly Mass, but say that they do not believe in Hell because a loving God would never torture his creatures with fire for all eternity. It’s been a very long time since I’ve heard a homily on this dogma of Hell at Mass. Do YOU believe in Hell?
Yes, hell exists.

I just began a book this morning called “An exorcist tells his story” by Gabriel Amorth. It states “evil, suffering, death and hell (that is, eternal damnation in everlasting torment) are not acts of God.”

Amorth references 2 exorcisms. One by Father Candido, his teacher and one by himself. At the end of an exorcism while expelling the demon, Candido told him “Get out of here. The Lord has already prepared a nice, well-heated house for you!”. The demon answered, “You do not know anything! It wasn’t God who mad hell. It was us. He had not even thought about it.”

Amorth states he questioned a demon upon exorcism whether he had helped create hell and the demon answered “All of us cooperated”.

:gopray:

I voted no. I don’t believe in any kind of afterlife. You get one life and what you make of it is what you make of it. If you live well and treat others kindly, you will be remembered fondly, if you treat others unkindly, you will be remembered as a villain. After all, not many families name their sons Haman.
Shoot, you better be right all I got to say!! Because you ain’t gonna like it if you’re not! LOL.

So tell us, what’s it like going through life thinking this is all it is? SInce you don’t believe you’re gonna answer for the stuff ya do, do ya just do what ya want? What stops ya from cheating, lying, stealing, etc? Why would you care what kind of legacy ya leave behind? I mean you’re a guy that says better do it why ya can cause doesn’t get any better then this, and if somebody died doin that stuff, so what?

I

In Cermack’s defense, elements of Judaism rejected the idea at least as far back as the time of Jesus. The Saduccees clearly rejected the concept of an afterlife.

Obviously, Jesus’ teachings were inherently incompatible with that branch of Jewish thinking. You can’t take Jesus at his word and NOT believe there is a hell.

Ah yes. That tight. I forgot about the Sadducees.

a_cermack, please forgive me me if I offended you.

Another question-
Is hell more of a state of mind than a place?

All I know is that it is NOT heaven. 😦

So you only tow the line because you will get in trouble if you don’t?

**Oh so many Catholics and other Christians do not believe in hell, for they say:
“I do not believe in Hell because a loving God would never torture his creatures with fire for all eternity.”

The fire however is metaphor, for nothing burns more, than to have seen God, and never to get to Him. Hell is reality itself.

Let’s ask those who do not believe in hell, how they can be Christian or even more so Catholic, when they delete part of the words of God; of Jesus Christ?!

Jesus warned us on very many passages of the Holy Bible about hell. If we then just in spite say Hell is inexistent, then we call Jesus a liar or teller of fairy tales!

Here are just some of the passages about hell and let’s remember, that we can’t give Satan a greater present, than to deny hell and the devil himself as well. Any enemy loves to stay unecognized.

Match the following passages in your bible about hell:
Mt 5,22 + 29 + 18,8-9 + 5,30 + 10,28 + 23,15 + 23,33 / 1 Joh 3,15 - Mk Mk 9,45-47 + 9,43 / Lk 8,31 + 12,5 + 16,19-31 and others about Satan or Devil.

No Christian should ever dare to delete a single word Jesus said in the Gospel. Otherwise he doesn’t believe in Jesus Christ.

Jesus told us, that hell is eternal damnation and eternal loss of former love of God.
There is no more to it – no way for any private interpretation!

I was introduced, by my Catechists, to two versions of Hell.

One said it was, in fact, at the center of the earth. Yup, that “lake of fire” described in the Bible, just so happens to be the magma at the core. A Fundementalists on TV said something quite clever though, agreeing with this idea. Hell is The Abyss, the Bottomless Pit. And when you’re at the absolute center of the earth, you can’t go down. Every other direction from the center is ‘up’.

Right, and the other idea was that Hell isn’t at all a real place, but is more a state of being in which a person is seperated from God.

I can be absolutely sure of one thing, however, about Hell, and that is…

I sure as, heh heh, don’t want to go there. :nope:

My ex was like that too, he, being Catholic-confirmed, baptized, etc- believed that if GOD DID REALLY EXIST, then why did HE allow people to die, or to get ill or sick, to be murdered, to be miserable, why did HE allow so much pain? And if HE was a loving FATHER then why did HELL exist then?

This is my exhusband whom was married to for almost a decade…and 3 children later, sometimes even people from the same religion don’t see things eye to eye and the religious beliefs and expressions are sometimes too hard and difficult to work out that the relationship ends before it begins!! 😦

But I tried to explain to him, he was very defensive about his belief that “yeah yeah there is a GOD but He doesn’t do anything!” Kind of attitude towards GOD…When he was 13 his mother died of leukemia, and ever since he started thinking this way about GOD…Which was something really difficult to deal with I understand, he even kept his mother’s hospital gown full of blood from all the blood she threw up in her last moments etc…It was very dramatic…And I understand that something so painful can cause doubts but I honestly tried to let him know that she was in a better place! Then he would return saying “Oh yeah the cold ground with worms is much better!” But he could never differentiate the whole spirit and body transition…???

I do believe there is a hell, sometimes I think based on the life we are having here in the Earth makes me feel like hell is all ready here…But of course it’s just the choices that people have made that has caused this planet to go the route it’s going…Very sad…
😦

But I do believe in heaven and if there is a heaven there has to be a hell!!

Well, there doesn’t have to be a Hell, I don’t think. Just as good can exist without evil, I personally think it would, or hypothetically could have been possible were everyone who ever lived to have lived for God, including those fallen angels, then there would be no Hell. But, there is a Hell. I guess in the under the current circumstances, there has to be a Hell, but that’s only because the damned made it so.

Sorry about your husband, ma’am. He clearly had some “issues”.

Since Jesus spoke about satan then there has to be a hell…
And if there is no evil how would you know what is good?

Eh he still does!!! lol…

There was this lady that came on the news a while ago, or actually a tv show that stated that Jesus has presented to her in her dreams and has shown her the pits of hell, she even wrote a book about it…In her dreams Jesus takes her to a realm above the Earth where demons and Angels are fighting for our souls, and how some escape into human beings to torture them and make them do horrible deeds, such as those that murder etc…And unless they repent they are doomed to hell for all eternity. She stated that Jesus asked her to take His hand and that she gave him his hand and felt this love and peace unlike any other, a great feeling and gift, and she felt like nothing could ever harm her and that she was home…Then he told her to close her eyes, and she did, and told her not to open them at all so she didn’t, then she felt this horrible heat but she still didn’t open her eyes and even with her eyes closed she could see the “damned” souls in the fiery pit, she saw so many people whom never repented and after they were in hell kept begging Jesus to forgive him and she felt his pain and sorrow and love for them and then Jesus told her that it was too late for them even if they do repent now…She said she saw this woman that sold her body for money and that snakes and scorpions came out of her private parts, and her eyes and mouth, and that her breasts were of some horrible thing and it was a painful torture over and over and Jesus told the lady that this is what happens to those souls that do not repent and live in sin their sins would be done unto them for all eternity. She also said He showed her this other woman who stole all her life, she was also blind and out of her mouth and came out horrible creatures, her hands were burned over and over, and the items she stole like jewelry etc and she would put on herself would turn into burning items upon her flesh…

Now I don’t know if this is true, but this is what this woman claims she saw that Jesus Himself showed her…And let me tell you if this is true may GOD have mercy on us and hope it’s not too late for anyone to receive God’s love into their lives!!!

Wow, I hope you are incorrect or that is the most depressing thing ever. Live a good life, and your reward is getting someone named after you.

I believe in Hell, but have never given much thought as to what exactly being sent to Hell encompasses. Is it Physical torture, mental torture, or the torture of being separated completely from God. I do not know, and I pray I never actually have to find out.
