Do you believe in Our Lady of Guadalupe?

Here I am sitting with my Mom who was there one year ago, asking her…“Mom there are some Catholics who do not believe in our Virgen de Guadalupe”…“tell me what did you feel when you went there ?She answered…well I went there feeling like visiting any touristic place in the world…but…when we started approaching the big church…I started feeling my heart pounding ,like if it was going to explode! I saw a statue of “John Paul ll” at the side, and there at the bottom hanging the actual “tilma”…sitting and praying, many pilgrims that were there asking for her intercession”…then suddenly mom just started to feel the tears in her face, perhaps for the lack of devotion she experienced at certain point in her life…Last night they showed in two local Spanish speaking channels the “Serenade to the brunette Virgin” (serenata a la Virgen morena)…that alone ,is just an apotheosis…I personally found out that 9 million people were expected to visit the Basilica of Nuestra Senora today …it is simply incredible! Her appearance was so important in the history of the new world, that they stopped the human sacrifice that was common in their civilization…that is why she is called the Patroness of the unborn…since they use to offer sacrifices of babies ,and body parts and organs,to the sun or any other gods .here in the United States, our Ministry ,Respect Life has her image in every Pregnancy Crisis Center and administrative office…for her to intercede in helping us help save the lives of babies that can be aborted.

I ask continually ask myself, why do all these things, these miracles that I can see, why do they always happen in this one Catholic church? Is someone trying to tell me something? What am I doing about it?

They don’t. We Orthodox have our miracles, as do Protestants.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is probably the only major Marion Apparition of (relatively) recent times which I accept at face value. The apparition was in keeping with Holy Tradition and led only to the spreading of the Gospel to a people who had never heard.

I don’t know 🤷 I wish I could explain it, but for some reason, I just don’t identify with her in that apparition or something??

I also think that with Lourdes, the water that still flows is evidence of miracle, in Fatima the many witnesses are, but the physical image of Our Lady of Guadalupe gives me doubt as to the authenticity. I’ve read a lot of random sites about it indicating that it has been painted over, etc. Also, I live in Texas, and the celebration seems less about religion here than it does about a celebration of Mexican Culture.

I am not saying that it is not true, just that it is harder for me to accept/believe than some other apparitions.
I live in Texas too and the great devotion and outpouring of Mexican culture kind of deters me away from the religious practice of veneration of the Virgin of Guadalupe and makes it more of a cultural thing synonymous with Mexican culture.

I have no doubt that it could be real and it probably is but I spend more time with other Marian apparitions like Fatima or Lourdes than with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

God bless!

🤷 Cannot say in all truth that I do.

I believe 100% in Fatima and Lourdes. Ave Maria

OLG appeared right smack in the center of the American Continents. We who live in any country in either the North American Continent, Central American or the Southern American Continent, have full claim to OLG. btw - was Mexico already a ‘country’ in 1531?
The New World had no independent nations in 1531; Mexico City was known as Tenochtitlan; Mexico (which included the SW 1/3 of the modern USA) as Nueva España.

But the people were the same as now.

I fully understand why someone who is not Mexo-Catholic might be somewhat off-put by the cultural dimensions of the Tilma of Guadalupe. I live in an area (4 miles from MX) that is totally soaked in the cultural content.

I still think it is awesome that we have a holy site that is only 800 rather than 8,000 miles away.

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. Who is that?
In honor of the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe who appeared 482 yrs ago in 1531!!!

The miracle of the Tilma of Juan Diego brought in about 8,000,000 converts to the Catholic Faith in the Americas just 10 years after Martin Luther was excommunicated from the Church in 1521 taking with him some German Catholics out of the Church.
No, I don’t believe in it.

I believe in the results of this vision. Who are we to say if the event happened or not? The benefit of this apparition is that it has brought people into the Church.

The same feel about the Devil. Not believing changes nothing.
That’s quite an arrogant statement I have to say.
To compare those two things are absurd.
Last time I checked , the Apparations of The Blessed Virgin wasn’t mandatory for us to believe in so comparing it to dogma is just outright stupid.

Sensitive-eh? Even some Catholics DENY dogma…the creation and existence of Lucifer. So you tell me what is more stupid? Denying and rejecting doma versus the apparations of Mary?

Stupid my a@#…

Not to sensitive, Im just saying that it has to be ok NOT to share Your view regarding Our Lady of Guadalupe as its Not Dogma.

The Catholics who are denying dogma are putting themselves in a position where they are above Rome. If one truely believes that the Catholic Church are the One true Church established by Christ himself and that its being led by the Holy Spirit and that the Popes are Peter’s successors one wouldnt put themselves in a position to devalue any of the Churchs teachings.
To do so would be to commit the same heresy as Martin Luther did.

Denying dogma is Heresy, denying the apparations of Mary isnt

And I never intended everyone has to believe or share my view. I understand your point. I know denying dogma is heresy.

The OP is a non-Catholic and wants to know where non-Catholics (& Catholics) stand on Our Lady of Guadalupe and the scientifically proven miracles found within the Tilma of Juan Diego.
Do you know that in the Orthodox church where I was baptized there is an Icon of the Theotokos of Tepeyak?

Our Lady of Guadalupe is not for Latin Catholics only. 🙂

The same feel about the Devil. Not believing changes nothing.
Is my not believing in Guadalupe of equal importance as someone not believing in the devil? If not, then the comparison is silly.
