Even if you are wrong?
It’s a risk we all take when we post an opinion.
What if this isn’t some story that has just been making the rounds in email… What if it is a true story that happened? You never know.
That last statement is the most important. I’d like to hear everyone respond with a simple statement to that effect: I don’t know, I cannot know, and you cannot, either. God will not be glorified by a falsehood and this anecedote is completely unverifiable. It should be ignored.

She asked if they would ask the man one question. Mary was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, “Because she wasn’t alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her.”
I think he was just too embarassed to admit that his ‘member’ was still down for the count. i mean, look its only been 20 minutes since the last workout. It needs some time to recharge.

I think the point is Missed Kevan…

The point is COULD god do this, not did he, will he or wont he… Just… Could he…

And the answer is a resounding Yes…

It has nothing to do with an anecdote, or some undocumented circular email… It has to do with a terrifying situation and WOULD God do something like that…

It doesn’t matter if this particular story is true or not…

Singing…

Absolutely this could happen. The only Caveat i throw into it is if it is God’s Will…

In Christ

It can, does, and is still happening today! God is just as powerful now as he was in the past. And many times we may be entertaining angels unaware. I know two people who had something similar happen, I also had an experience before myself. Have to go now to pick up tot, Will post my story later.

They have an interesting take on this… Why would a loving God not have the Angels stick around?
I didn’t read the link, but that is sort of what I was thinking…does that mean that God loves the one lady more than the other lady - I mean if one lady was protected and the other was allowed to be raped?

The girl was in a party! She was probably as drunk as her boyfriend and did not realize that 2 guys from the party accompanied her home. 😃

I have known Angels. I have never known them to allow someone else to be hurt by the danger from which they saved me. One time we were driving down a steep mountain slope in a blizzard, and almost went off the edge into the lake - an angel caught the car and pushed us back on to the road. No one was hurt on that road, that night - the Angel was guarding everyone who passed that way; not just us. Everyone made it home safely in that blizzard.

If these had been real Angels, they would have saved both girls.

But I consider it more likely that this incident never actually happened.

In any thread that I start I say ‘be nice’ because whenever you get catholics and protestants talking about something, it seems whether big or small, a lot of mud slinging ensues… It just a reminder to check the attitudes at the door… 👍

If it has happened - then it can 🙂

I find it hard to believe, but that’s just me.

To turn this around a bit, and play devil’s advocate:

Do you believe This Could Happen:

A woman was walking in an alley when she saw a dangeous man approach her. She prayed to Jesus and Mary asking for their protection. The man raped and killed her.

You are precisely on target, Valke2. The question “Could it happen?” is not a very useful question.

Some of you are being really uncharitable. Singing Beauty was asking about the plausibility of modern miracles not about this specific scenario and you all know it!

Singing Beauty, there are a million reasons why I shouldn’t be alive today, but only one reason why I am… God! Yes miracles happen all around us, most don’t take the time to recognize them as the hand of God. With God all things are possible.

When we can see God’s miracles in a little child’s smile or his majesty in a rainbow… why can’t we see his work in our own lives? Is it because we don’t feel worthy? Truth is none of us are worthy but God loves us anyway… So open up your hearts and stop being so cynical about miracles!

The problem I have with the story is not that the girl was saved by Angels - that part is very believable.

The part I find difficult to believe is that the Angels would then turn around and allow another girl to be hurt.

It would make more sense if the man was converted on the spot and resolved never to try to hurt anyone again - then, I would believe that the Angels were really there, because that is the sort of thing that the Angels of my acquaintance would do. 🙂

That happens all the time. In the philippines there is a famous tourist spot: a low tower not far from Mayon Volcano. The story was, the Volcano errupted and the villagers all flocked into the Church praying and begging God for salvation. Well, they got to heaven more sooner than necessary when the volcanic lava burried them and the entire village. The only thing left gazing the sky was the church bell tower.

So,… if ANY person on the planet (or even further afield) is hurt after someone is “saved” by angels,… it’s difficult to believe in angels…?

EVERYONE has to be “saved” simultaneously or “being saved” is not a real thing?

Why do some folks have a need for an “all or nothing” conditionality when it comes to things “religious”…?

What is with this attitude whereby perfection must be achieved UNIVERSALLY and in an instant for perfection to even be a valid concept toward which anyone should strive…?

The answer to these questions is rather obvious, of course, but I’d LOVE an explanation of it from someone who actually seriously sincerely holds it…!

Thanks in advance. 🙂

I believe in angels and that God is active in our lives. But what keeps me on the edge about these types of stories is what is the response to the second lady who was raped? Did she not pray enough? Does God not love her as much as He loves the first lady that passed by unharmed?

No, that’s not what I’m saying.

I’m saying, the Angels knew there was a bad man in that alley. Why didn’t they stick around until everyone had passed safely, as they did with me and my Dad on a treacherously icy road one winter?

My Dad and I were saved by an Angel. Everyone who passed down that road that night made it out safely - nobody got hurt. I am not saying that the Angel has to stay there every day for the whole winter - but since he was there for us, he stuck around and helped everyone else, too - he didn’t just leave in the middle of the storm, after helping us.

I do believe in Angels - but I don’t believe that they would first save one person, and then let the next person be hurt.

What does the story about the laborers who were all paid the same whether they worked all day, or worked for only an hour tell you?

Do you suppose that you are obligated to be told by God the full circumstances of all the people related to the story as God sees it?

Remember God’s “answer” to Job…!? Since God owes you nothing by way of explanation, what possible reason do you have to not believe other than simply not wanting to believe?
Does God not love her as much as He loves the first lady that passed by unharmed?
What concern is that of yours…!?

Does God seem to love the one He saved? Yes or no.

Does God seem to love the one he didn’t save? Is it possible that what happened was God’s will, meant, as always, to bring greater good from evil?

What you are saying is, “Why wasn’t everyone (in the vicinity) saved from harm?”

Which, if you expand “the vicinity” to be “the county”, or “the country”, or “the world”, or “the universe”, is precisely what I see you saying.
My Dad and I were saved by an Angel. Everyone who passed down that road that night made it out safely - nobody got hurt.
That’snice, but that was that situation, and can’t be used as a “template” for all actions of the angels,… now can it?

So, unless an angel acts as you would, regardless of their superior goodness and almost all-knowing perception, they can’t be REAL angels?
I do believe in Angels - but I don’t believe that they would first save one person, and then let the next person be hurt.
Please think about what you are saying.

It goes directly to the entire question of suffering, and how God can easily be not believed in simply by stating that, “If God allows one person to suffer and another to avoid suffering He is unfair, and I won’t believe in a God who can be unfair.”

That way lies madness…
