Do you bless your house on Epiphany?

I’ve heard about this acient tradition of blessing your house on Epiphany, January 6th, with blessed chalk.
You write 20+C+M+B+18 on your door. 2018 for the year we’re entering and C+M+B for Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar (or Christus mansionem benedicat, May Christ bless the house.)

I’ll probably not do this as I do not live in a Catholic home, it’s supposed to be a family tradition with the whole family praying together.

Do you partake in this Epiphany tradition?
 
Every summer, all the doorways in my school are done by the religious sister in residence in this manner. it’s cool. She always does the years in roman numberals.

This is interesting. I’ve heard of blessing the house in the New Year, but never by writing this stuff on the doors and I wouldn’t even know where to look to find “blessed chalk”.
 
I think its rather like blessed salt, where you have chalk you purchased blessed
 
My parish is giving out “kits” with instructions and blessed chalk. Funny, I’ve been a Catholic a long time and this is the first time I’ve heard of such a thing or seen the kits. Of course, house blessings (for example when you move to a new house) are very common.
 
I had a FSSP priest who told us about it. It was the first I’d heard of it-- using blessed chalk to write a particular formula over a door at Epiphany.

And yes, he was also the one who told me about blessed salt. 😛

I did the chalk on and off for a few years, but then I ran out of chalk. I still use the salt, though.

Uhhhh I live in an apartment complex. And I am pretty sure there are rules about writing on the walls and doorframes. What can I do?
 
In years gone by in various parishes that I lived in they would promote it but then I lived in another parish that did not. My current parish encourages the blessing. They provide the chalk.
 
I had my apartment blessed by a priestwhen I moved last September.

I think I will do this on epiphany, I’m unsure about the main door to my building though, maybe I’ll just sprinkle some Holy water around it, something I should do soon actually.
 
I do the house blessing every Epiphany. My Parish distributes the Blessed Chalk at every Mass.
 
We as a family do the same. Our Pastor encourages everyone to take home a blessing kit each year.
 
Do you use the exorcised salt instead of blessed chalk? if so how?
 
Blessed (exorcised) salt can be used in various ways.

One way to use it is similar to holy water. You might sprinkle it along the boundaries of your property, or at the doorways of your home, and say a prayer for people who come into your space/territory.

Another way is to cook with it. You might sprinkle it in the food you’re cooking, and ask God to bless those who eat your food.

The FSSP priest gave us an anecdote of an African priest who had come to visit them, and he saw the American priests blessing their food with exorcised salt. The African priest was like, “Woah, you guys have to do that here, too?” Because in his part of Africa, he had to deal with things like curses and stuff, not the ooga-booga-Hollywood stuff, but real-life hatred and malice, and the African priests regularly used the exorcised salt as one of their sacramentals.
 
Instead of using chalk, use a blessed permanent marker.

Be bold, make a statement! 😃
 
But you would have to change the number next year.

I could not find my chalks. I was planning to have them blessed tomorrow ugh.
