Do you bless yourself when you pass Catholic Church?

Is there anything objectionable to blessing myself also when I pass an Orthodox Church? I have done this for some years as they have the true sacraments, though I recognize their partial schismatic status.

Yes we do!

I have heard from people who use to ride the bus to work during the early and mid 1900’s, that men would be fusing and fuming about stuff - as they came to a Catholic Church - they would all stop fussing/cussing/whatever - tip their hats and cross themselves.

I don’t see anything wrong with it - though I’m no priest or theologian…You’re acknowledging God.

90% of the time (the rest of the time I’m following Jim Morrison’s advice of keeping “my eyes on the road and hands upon the wheel” due to some strange driving habits of those around me).

The same goes when I am wearing a hat. Also, I usually say a quick prayer to one of the Blessed Trinity.

I think it’s a shame that this custom has died out.
Not in Ireland, 10 years ago approx: a young man was beaten here in the north for doing so, (my hometown actually) but who cares, we still Bless ourselves regardless.

I am glad you still do Hawkeye, we should hang on to our culture and customs…Many people have paid a huge price for us to have the right to do them

I didn’t know about this custom until my reversion two years ago, and have only fairly recently started doing it. I say a line from one of the Psalms when doing so ‘How lovely is Your dwelling place, Lord God of hosts!’

And I also bless myself with emergency vehicles and say at least a Glory Be.
