Do you bow your head at the part in the Nicene Creed?

Never knew until a few years ago. The Priest said we are actually supposed to genuflect(sp?). The Creed in the missal, which I still can never completely memorize, has the bracketed instructions to bow.

I profoundly bow in the creed and bow head at every mention of ‘Jesus Christ’ as I learned from my Anglo Catholic Episcopalian days.

In my Catholic parish some older parishoners head bow but profound bowing in the creed is non - existent!

Don’t lose any sleep over it though!

Thanks everyone for replying and keep on replying, the poll doesn’t have an ending time. I think the posts are interesting and I don’t feel so alone bowing anymore even if I and my family are the only one’s doing it. I now know that somewhere there are Catholics bowing too

I have to agree with Supermom it is refreshing to see that the people who have all responded show that reverence during the Creed. I am probably 1 in 5 Catholics that I have ever even noticed bowing their head. Our parish is very large so that is very poor. But it is nice to be here with so many good Catholics.

I travel a bunch for work, and I see lot of different ways of celebrating the Mass.

I have to say that I do a profound bow (and afterwards feel a lot of eyes upon me, “like, who is he?” I try not to look around, but it’s hard not to notice…)

On the other hand, at my home parish, our Pastor is getting along in years, and he does a ‘profound’ bow instead of genuflecting(to the knees) because of age-related issues(I guess it’s not as easy to get the knees up and down when you’re nearly 80. He’s a wonderful Priest(IMHO) and a good confessor, so I’m of the mind that the Lord sees his intent, and not his actions. (this is just my opinion, of course!)

He also has really serious angina, so on occasion he lets the Deacon(s) and the EMHC dispense the Eucharist, when he needs to take a break (and a pill.)

I have to say, I worry about him when I get home and don’t see him at the early Mass thru the week…)

That seems reasonable to me.

I belong to a traditional parish, so we kneel at that point in the Creed. Father Gordon and the alta boys all prostate themselve on the widest staìr leading to the high altar. Our parish kept the high altar and commùnion rail. At any point in the liturgy, Gloria, Reading of the Word or the Creed, we all bow our heads when the name of Jesus is read or sung.
Every time l go to a Mass at a different parish, l do what l am acustomed to doing. I do get stares, but l feel l am doing as the Bible says , every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!

In the Ordinariate, we genuflect at the mention of the incarnation in the Creed and also during the Angelus which we sing after Mass.

When attending an NO Mass, I bow my head as the Mass book says to. Some others do but certainly the minority.
