Do you celebrate the day of your baptism?

This was YEARS ago - no RCIA. I had weekly individual sessions with the parish priest. I didn’t know when I was baptised even then. But it would be nice to see if they have the date I made my Profession of Faith. Which was also private - just me, the priest, and 2 friends as witnesses. They really weren’t used to adult conversions back then. 🙂
That would HAVE to be in the Sacramental record book in their fire safe.

👍

Oh my - memories! I remember that safe. I did a lot of volunteering at the Cathedral (where I joined the Church) & I wondered why the safe was left opened all day. I had thought money was in there, but I’ll bet it was all parish records. 🙂

E-mail sent off to the Cathedral! At last, I’m going to find out the actual dates. Tho I do know when I married (usually). 😉

Great! Let us know how it turns out! 😃

I celebrate the day of my baptism every year… but that’s probably because it was on July 4. 😑

I don’t, but should. Since I have the original certificate I know the exact date and place of my baptism—and judging from the posts here, I’m quite fortunate in this regard—I don’t have any excuses. 😊

This year, I was mad as a hornet that day (long story) and didn’t have the presence of mind to give it even so much as a passing thought. Sigh.

Today was mine, the feast of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. (My middle name is also Frances). I was blessed to attend holy Mass and give thanks to God for making me a part of His Church and our faith.

Do any of you do special things on this day by way of celebration?
I don’t. I assume I was baptized on October 11 but I’m not really sure. I’ve never had a Certificate of Baptism since I received all my recordable sacraments in the same parish so I never needed one.

While I was back home last summer I went to the village church to request my certificate only to find that the records are no longer kept there. The parish is still open, although with only 1 Mass per month since the fall I don’t know how long that will last, but there is no one in the office on a regular basis so the records have all been moved to the parish in the nearest town.

It was only when I had to dig out my baptism certificate to convert to the RC that I even knew the date, September 11th apparently. 😦 I think I’ll celebrate my name day instead, which would be St Peter and St Paul’s Day (June 29th).

We had a baptism at the 11 AM Mass today which made renewing my baptismal vows easy. When Father had the entire congregation renew their vows along with the parents of the child, I joined in with the intention of going for the plenary indulgence. 🙂

I also said hello to the parents after Mass and told them their little girl and I now share an anniversary.

For those who mentioned that you do not know the date of your baptism, according to Fr. Trigilio’s show last week on Web Of Faith (EWTN), your present parish receives all the important information on you, including updates of all your other sacraments. You might want to contact your priest and ask about this.

Someone had sent an email asking why it was important to belong to the Church, and this was one of the benefits … your records are updated even if you change parishes.
My current parish has no idea where (or when) I was Baptized. They wouldn’t know whom to contact to receive the records. 🤷

Maybe Fr, Trigilio was indicating that they receive the records if the person receives another sacrament.

I am sure I could contact my original parish and ask them. But no, I don’t celebrate the day.

No, if you move after you’re baptized your new parish is not sent that information – not unless they require it so you can receive another sacrament. The parish that should have all your records is the parish where you were baptized or received into the Church.

As an example, I’ve lived in 9 different parishes since I left home as an 18 year old. Not one of those parishes has had any record of my sacraments. I was baptized, received my First Communion, was confirmed and married in my birth parish. That’s the only parish that has any of my records.

Our first two children were also baptized there in 1979 and 1982. They were confirmed elsewhere in 1995 and the parish where that happened should have recorded their Confirmation (including where & when they were baptized) and then forwarded a Notification of Confirmation to their Baptismal Parish. If they ever get married in the Church the parish where they marry would also forward a Notification of Marriage to their Baptismal Parish.

I’ve never seen First Communion noted on a Certificate of Baptism and we never notified the Baptismal Parish of that sacrament nor did we ever receive notification of such.

Why not celebrate your baptism on September 11th anyway? Despite what happened on that day in 2001 (I’m guessing that’s the reason for the :(), there should also be good things associated with this date. A baptism would qualify as such 🙂

I know someone who was born on September 11th twelve years before the attacks. Should she not celebrate her own birthday?

Hadn’t even occurred to me what the exact day of my baptism was before I read this thread. I actually was able to find out by contacting the original parish of my baptism and found out it was March 28. Day after Easter next year 👍

Thanks to all of you for your feedback. I see that it has been helpful to some of you, so that you can appreciate anew the gift of your baptism and renew your promises on that day.
Praise be to God!
