Do you choose LOVE in all that you do?

Are you suggesting that anyone who watches an action or war movie, for example, is displaying vain glory?
Our religiosity has many degrees or levels. Again, I try to emulate the best I can the contemplatives, especially the Carthusians. I seldom wake up in the middle of my sleep to pray or wear hair shirt, but they are my comparison level. I doubt very much that a Carthusian would be drawn to watch such shows, so neither am I. To view these shows would be wasted energy that would be much better spent in silent prayer where we rid ourselves of all worldly thoughts and images and instead focus all our spiritual energy on God who can become manifested from within our forehead. We are all free to glorify God as much as we want, and I want to glorify Him with every bit of my spirit. I have a long way to go, but what I have outlined here are my goals.

LOVE! ❤️

I should have said “vanity,” and not “vain glory.”

So you mean if I watch an action movie or a soccer match I am being vain??

I try, but often fail due to very subtle elements of pride or other hedonistic pleasure – I’m definitely still a sinner!

Throughout the years I’ve learned that by giving love to anyone and unconditionally, it will all come back to you a hundred folds. Basic law, whatever it is that you give out, you will receive the same in return, even more than you can imagine.

“Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth,
vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!”
-Ecclesiastes 1:2

No, I’m not making this stuff up. Do you believe this or not? I’m really interested. It seems to me that we all have become lukewarm in our worship.

LOVE! ❤️

PS There are so many passages of scripture that suggests that our worldly desires are folly. If you want, I can post a few.

I like the ones in Ecclesiastes; the whole book is about it. I’d like to see some of the other ones you have in mind. 👍

“Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”
-John 12:25

“Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world. If any man loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.”
-1 John 2:15

“throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.”
-Ephesians 4:22

The Gospel as a whole also centers on the fact that our worldly wants are folly. Here’s one passage that infers that our worldly wants are folly:

Matthew 16:24 RSV
Then Jesus told his disciples, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me

I do the Way of the Cross every day (youtube.com/watch?v=yLlKkWw_wjI), and so this quote by Saint Francis of Assisi comes to mind.

O Jesus, Thou hast set me apart from the world; what, then, shall I seek therein? Thou hast created me for Heaven; what, then, have I to do with the world? Depart from me, deceitful world, with thy vanities! Henceforth I will follow the Way of the Cross traced out for me by my Redeemer, and journey onward to my heavenly home, there to dwell forever and ever.

I think you need serious help if you think anyone who watches a movie, sport etc are being vain. The Church does not teach that. Stick to Church teachings instead of trying to impose your own private interpretations of Scripture on us.
Also it is not for you to judge anyone and certainly not tell us that all Catholics are lukewarm in their worship. That is an insult to all Catholics and especially to the Pope.

No, I’m not necessarily saying they are in vain, only if they do not bring you closer to LOVE, which they probably do not. What do you imagine Christ would say? Can you truly follow Him while pursuing things of the world?

Yes, it’s ashame that so many Catholics are probably lukewarm. And I think that the Pope would agree.

The bottom line is who are you going to emulate, Christ or those who are lukewarm.

Never did I say that ALL Catholics are lukewarm.

Sad to say, but I often consider myself as being lukewarm; many are called, but few are chosen.

O innocent Jesus, having sinned, I am guilty of eternal death, but Thou willingly dost accept the unjust sentence of death, that I might live. For whom, then, shall I henceforth live, if not for Thee, my Lord? Should I desire to please men, I could not be Thy servant. Let me, therefore, rather displease men and all the world, than not please Thee, O Jesus.

Yes you did say all.

Your words below:

“It seems to me that we** all have become lukewarm** in our worship.”

You continue to judge and insult Catholics by your latest statement:

“Yes, it’s ashame that so many Catholics are probably lukewarm. And I think that the Pope would agree.”

If you have not spoken to the Pope about this then you should refrain from telling us what the Pope would say!!

OK, I said “all,” but I promise that I did not intend it to mean each and every Catholic, but the average Catholic. Let me also apologize if I insult you or any other Catholic, but the truth must be made clear. "Let me, therefore, rather displease men and all the world, than not please Thee, O Jesus."

I think this is all you are interested in, may be better for you. Ask A Free Psychic Love Question
I tried it.

I thought I was just going to submit the question and see an answer. I typed, “Is it love, or is it vanity, to enjoy a Hollywood movie?”

Then it connected me to a “live chat” but I didn’t see that it actually submitted my question. And this woman was on video making comments about what was going by in the chat. I had no idea whether she was “live” or not. I doubted it, but …

I really wanted to go ahead and submit the question, but I got creeped out and closed the window. Brrrr! :winter:

Another public confession is that there seems to exist a subtle temptation of “self” enhancement in many of my actions, and not true LOVE.

To anybody I may have offended with my observation and opinions, let me be clear that I believe that God can dispense His graces as He chooses, for reasons beyond our comprehension; be it in His will, an “average” Catholic may receive a more abundant grace than a Carthusian!
