sometimes i feel i am not doing waht God wants… or at least not a lot of the time…

You???

This thread reminds me of my children who love to point out to each when one makes the claim of being bored that it is a sin to be bored.🙂

But I am with Ted on this one.

As a human being I can categorically state that there have definitely been occasions when I have ‘wasted time’. Some, if not all, of those occasions could have been sinful. . .most were not or were not knowingly sinful.

Ted, I find your posts very worthwhile. I would no more accuse you of wasting time posting too much here than I would accuse **myself **of wasting time posting too much here. 😃

Maybe I should rephrase that. . .😊

Actually, I don’t think that much time is ‘wasted’ in the sense that it was ‘squandered’, or ‘useless’. Perhaps we don’t always manage our time to make its fullest possible use–but that doesn’t mean we **waste **it.

Plus, for one person, an hour spend playing cards, or Scrabble, might be if not wasteful certainly not that productive. . .whereas for another person, playing with children or an elderly relative, that time would be most enjoyable at least for the child or the older relative, and thus would certainly be a praiseworthy use of that time.

Actually I think I have the opposite problem. I seem to feel compelled to be doing something productive at every moment and I don’t think that is healthy. I think it is important to take time out to do nothing, to have fun, to relax and I don’t see that that is valued in America today in any way.

Luckily my hubby is British and not driven to alway achieve, achieve, achieve every moment and he is helping me to stop and smell the roses and just take life slower. What’s the harm?

I don’t think God meant for us to be going at full speed all the time. Most likely He is shaking his head and wondering why we can’t be still for five minutes.

Amie

Amie, I’m that way too. But sometimes, even when we think we’re being productive, we’re wasting time.

Right.

Is spending time striving for worldly success anything that the Lord gives us credit for? I don’t think so.

Is idle time something to be praised? Perhaps not. But is it sinful? Not in most cases. It seems to me that as we grow in spirituality we are able to give more, and the Lord asks from us what we’re able to give at our present state.

a big Amen to that…

only i would say that we should be still for 5 hours, not just 5 minutes…

When Mary has appeared (Fatima, etc) she always says to pray, pray, pray…

She says Don’t get a night job… etc… Use spare time for praying…

No wonder i love Mary… 🙂

Only when I post here too much.
i laughed at this… because, for one thing, i could have said it…

But i thought about it and most of the time, i don’t feel what i post is a waste of time. I feel i am wasting time when trying to get someone to see Catholicism for what it truly is and the person just comes up with argument after argument after argument… but even that may not be a waste of time… Onlly God knows…

Actually, that is probably (at least sometimes) more a waste of WORDS than a waste of time… :banghead: (both…)

😃

Yeah, definitely something to think about… What we think is important and what God thinks is oftne entirely different…

As the Bible says His ways are not our ways.

I sometimes feel when I’ve watched a movie at least 10x on Lifetime, I’m procrastinating cleaning the house, or grocery shopping. I hate when I make excuses in my head…like, well, I need some rest…or it looks like rain outside, I should stay in right now. lol:blush:

I also don’t view posting on here as a waste of time, although, my marshmallow thread might be seen that way.:o I pray daily though that God shows me what He wants for me to do. Truthfully, I get more done when I’m at work, because I have greater focus. When it’s my hubby, the kids and me…we sort of spend a lot of time thinking of what to do with our free time. Kind of silly, no? :whacky:

i was feeling the other day that i spend too much time praying abut what God wants me to do… If i haven’t gotten a crystal clear answer by now… i figure maybe he is giving me more freedom than… well, than i care to have!! or something…

I just feel sometimes that i am… not doing some important thing that God wants me to do… (even though i AM doing many good things… or a few anyway…)…

🤷

ummmm better check how long I have been on this forum

I think my problem is combo of both attitudes lamented here: wasting time doing a lot of busyness, while ignoring my real duties. It is very easy to be very active in the wrong things yet accomplishing nothing of what is required of me.

I hear ya, distracted! (is that why you chose that username? are you distracted?😃 teasin’ ya)

I definitely feel that my vocation as wife, mother…and also working in corporate world, is where God wants me. Where we are, we can build the Kingdom of God up. I think many feel that being a missionary, or counseling orphans in hospitals would be an automatic desire of God for each and every one of us. And we are to take care of all those around us. No doubt about that. But, I read not too long ago, that where we are each day, can be a field to plant holy seeds in…I plant seeds at home, and at work…and wherever God leads me.

I have always thought God wants me to counsel children who have lost a parent or both–and aid them through the grieving process. I tried it, and then backed out, for some reason. I lost my parents, and have always felt a strong tug from the Holy Spirit to pursue something along those lines. I think my own fears of not being ‘good enough’ to help another, spur up. The devil, in other words, tugs on me too.

There is that old saying…the devil likes when we have idle time…something like that.

But, don’t think that you can’t make a difference in our world for Christ, and following Him–right where you are. You really can. Searching for another place to be, or another activity to pursue…is common for us all, when it comes to trying to figure out God’s plan for our lives. But, right where you are…in the world you have RIGHT NOW, you can make a difference.

thanks…

i tell myself that (last thing), but hard to live by all the time…

i guess we all just want everything to be perfect now (Heaven)… 😃

Funny you mention heaven…my 12 yr old dd the other day asked me…‘what will we all be doing in heaven? will it be boring?’

Hanging out with Jesus …boring? Are you kidding? I answered.

(But, after I said that I was thinking to myself…I wonder if there will be responsibilities in heaven.:o ) I was looking forward to a nice long nap, on a fluffy cloud or something. 😉 😛 Has the makings of a good title for a new thread. 😃

I can echo this idea, distracted. I am almost to the point where I am thinking: God doesn’t want me to anything for Him particularly, so just chill out! I am guessing that His will will be revealed in His time and not by my nagging Him.

It also depends on what others post. . .😃

Sometimes I can post a lot (and I’ll even think it’s not too terrible) in a terrific exchange of ideas where I both learn from, and help inform others, and that’s great!

Sometimes I can post a lot (and I’ll even think it’s outright decent) but the exchange degenerates as posters come on with tangents, and nastiness, or silliness, and I wonder why on earth I bother when nobody seems to take something quite serious seriously.)

Sometimes I can post a lot (and for whatever reason I’ll be flippant, or I’ll misread something, or I’ll just flat out be wrong  Yes, it’s happened once or twice) and the repercussions can be huge. Maybe what I said hurt somebody and if I’d said it better, they wouldn’t have been hurt. Maybe what I said confused somebody and if I’d been more careful and less ‘amusing’, they wouldn’t be confused. Maybe what I said annoyed somebody and kept them ‘further away’ from the truth just because they were annoyed with ME, and if I’d been more thoughtful, they might have come closer to the truth instead.

We try to do our best, most of us who post here, but sometimes what has worked well for us, what we’ve even been praised for by others for being clear, understanding, and true. . .doesn’t ‘work’ for another. And that can rock us. Because we like to think we ‘help’, it can be a shakeup to find that sometimes, even when we want to help. . .we don’t.
