HI everyone! Have any of you sinned in your posting practises? Have you sinned by spending too much time here, and neglected other important duties? :o Did you jump to conclusions about someone else’s post and give a scathing response, only to regret it? 😦 Did you have a vengeful attitude towards someone else based on their personal opinion, which differed from your own? :tsktsk: Did you backbite via the private message feature about another poster? did you use the reputation system as retribution? :ehh:

Have any of you brought up your posting sins in the confessional? Isn’t our behaviour here held to the same standards as in the ‘real world’, despite it’s anononymity? What say ye???

Aaaaaaaaarrrghhh!!! This thread is right on the button. I have sinned, mea culpa, mea culpa!
It has been at the head of my confession list for the last two times I’ve been - that I’m wasting some of my employer’ time on these forums. I don’t have a home computer (which is very rare I acknowledge, but that’s because when I’m not at work, I don’t want to be staring at a screen as I do all day on weekdays).
So – I’ve tried paying back the time from my lunch hours and staying late; I’ve also donated a day’s annual leave (without taking it in fact - and I can do that without anyone in my immediate workplace knowing, because it’s my job to enter timesheet data for payroll) My employer is fairly relaxed about use of the internet for personal purposes as long as it doesn’t take up more than a few minutes - but I feel deeply guilty about the amount of time I take, and I think maybe I just have to go “cold turkey”.
Perhaps I should just beg the prayers of anyone who reads this!!!:o How could I give up my addiction without your prayers??
But seriously, I am thinking about this and praying about it, and I realise I do have to give up these forums - or buy a home computer … BUT I just have more important things to do at home - like housework, cooking, reading and praying!
Maybe this will be my last post, if y’all pray hard enough for me!!😉

One possible solution is to limit your time on the forum to your lunch period. Bring a sack lunch, eat at your desk, while on the forum. Use an alarm to remind you that lunch is up. Just my :twocents:

You are right, White Dove. I will PM my confessor and ask him to email my penance.

**No need for that! I’m afraid that in order to relieve you conscience…at least where work is concerned…you will have to break down and buy your very own PC…THEN…You will have to deal with the tempation to be online at home, when you should be doing other things. 😃 **

**Now that this has been brought to my attention, :o I know what I will have to confess next time. :yup: …I’m a stay at home gramma…I spend lots of time with the grandsons…so I am sorely tempted to spend LOTS of time on the computer, especially here on this forum. Have to admit that I am often HERE, when I should be THERE…There, being in my kitchen, my laundry room or at the helm of my vaccuum sweeper…:o **

**I also have to admit that I never thought of this as an “occasion of sin”…:hmmm: **

While I have never felt the need to confess a post, I have had to hit the “back” button as better judgement prevailed or delete mt response and try again later.

I know it is only a matter of time before I hit that “Submit Reply” button a little too quickly. It is only because I dread the loss of heaven, the pains of hell and the wrath of Karl Keating that I stay my hand.

:nope: :crying: I’m afraid that I’ve never considered my internet sins. Although I’ve gotten better with my attitude, which I’ve had to confess often, it hasn’t always been good. In fact, a couple of years ago I got banned from a christian web site because I couldn’t watch my mouth. My language was foul, and I took things so personally, I got nasty with a few people.

I’ve actually gone to confession and mentioned sins from posting on the boards. Way to go for mentioning this!
God Bless,

Justin

I’ve confessed that I have spent too much time online when I could have been doing other more productive things.

I have found that going to one of those ‘online’ sites that has a live web cam of the Blessed Sacrement when I FIRST log in in the morning is a big help in keeping me in line while I’m online. 🙂

Last week I confessed to a post I made that was tantamount to gossip – what I said was unkind and unnecessary.

🙂

GREAT POST WHITE DOVE…!

and i hope the rest of you straighten up…, now if i can but only find a mirror… 👍

Good thread 👍
I just went to confession on Sunday.
I did list a couple of sins that I thought had to do with posting…but I didn’t specifically say it was on the internet.

Excellent thread White Dove!

I got into an exchange when first here with a poster that went terribly bad for the both of us. I did not realize it had come to that point until the gentle reminder from the Super Moderator. And thank God for that, for it allowed me to stay around and revisit that whole thread in order to see what went so wrong. I have not confessed about anything here, but I think that I probably should.

As for the tendencies of some to use the messaging and reputation system as weapons, well, I have been victim of that, but Ms. Martin has taken care of things and in truth it has been much, much better than at first. It amazes me as to the stuff that people will sometimes do on an MB. Because it is cyber-based I think people tend to pretend it isn’t real. However, as a veteran of many years of Catholic (Roman and Oriental), Orthodox and Jewish MBs I can say this is a problem that tends to be on every single one of them. And certainly the words and actions, while cyber, are just as real.

I will say that the crew here does a very good job at staying on top of things and correcting what needs to be corrected. Not looking for brownie points, rather I am impressed with their work thus far.

Your unworthy brother in Christ and by the Grace of God a future Maronite priest,

Donnchadh

P.S. leave it to a nurse to bring up the practical for the benefit of others… this doc missed it all together! LOL;)
