Lucania:
I’ve never see this show but do you have an example of how the show makes fun of Jews & Muslims? Scientologists? Budhists? Since you say that the show makes fun of everyone. Or is Christianity the only religion that they "make fun " of? My guess is that the answer is, there ARE no examples because it’s Christianity that gets to be the joke. It wouldn’t be politically correct to pick on anyone else. I could be wrong in this case. Tell me if I am. By the way, I do not condone making fun of other religions. I have a good sense of humor but I don’t think that mocking someone’s faith is funny. My answer to the OP’s question is yes. It was Blasphemous.
Yeah, they make fun of EVERYONE! I wouldn’t buy the movies or DVDs, but my husband and I do occasionally watch reruns at night time on Cartoon Network. I am guessing mostly men find this crude humor funny, I can take it or leave it.
examples…
jews-- The one where the dad wants his son to grow up to be good with money so he he prays to God (big musical number ) Please send me a Jew! Lots of jewish jokes in that one.
muslims-- Always something about terrorists, Osama Bin Lama making stupid announcements, one where a woman in a burka with on her eyes uncovered is sitting next to her husband and he yells “Cover yourself!” and she covers her eyes.
When it is siad that everyone is made fun of, it is true.

all i will say is this. Ann Catherine Emmerich talked about how a BLACK BOX will influence the world. I think that black box is the TV!

I’ve been pondering if I should post the video or not to show the people that have not seen it, but I’ve come to realise that even tho it made me laugh because it was so absurd, It does belittle the miracles of Christ, and there were/are people who laugh at the thought of Jesus and who actually did talk down to the miracles of Christ which is beyond horrible.

but if anyone is interested, I can post it.

You know what…whether or not you think that one specific joke was blasphemous or not, the fact of the matter is that plenty of others in the show, particularly in the new season, CLEARLY ARE.

I was watching an episode a few nights ago, and they animated God talking on the phone while he was in bed with some woman.

Then there was the episode that adstrinity mentioned where they animated Him with a porn collection.

Does anything else really matter in light of jokes like these? Personally, it doesn’t to me anymore. I’m through with the show.

I have not seen this show that everyone is talking about, but it clearly sounds like something I should not be doing.

Sometimes our funny bones get tickled, and then we go on laughing even when something nags at our conscience. After a while our conscience doesn’t nag us and we just laugh at it all, rationalizing it by saying “It’s just for a good laugh”.

That is how the evil one gets his foot in the door.

I’m really surprised how uptight you guys can get about the show, I find almost everything hilarious.

And yes, they give equal jokes to other religions, there was a whole episode just about Jews, as someone else mentioned.

The episode about Jews that many of you guys are talking about, which, by the way, was called “When You Wish upon a Weinstein (from season 3)” is a rather poor defense of the show’s overstepping of boundaries in the context of Christianity.

Without bringing up the simple fact that When You Wish upon a Weinstein led to the cancellation of the show in its 3rd season, and has never been aired on primetime network television, the episode dealt moreso with stereotypes about the Jews as a people than it did their religion. The issue I have with the show is not that it takes cheap shots at Christians, or even at Christianity, but rather that it takes cheap shots at God and at Jesus.

If you guys still insist that delighting in these kinds of jokes is ok if another religion gets a few jokes here and there as well, then do remind me of an episode where a centrally sacred figure of another religion has been treated in the same manner as the Christian God and Jesus have been treated. As a former huge fan of Family Guy, I own all the dvds (except for the new season), and can recite most jokes, and the episodes and seasons in which the jokes may be found, so I’ll know what you’re talking about.

I take offense to cheapshots at God, the blessed trinity, and christianity. They even had one where they depicted nuns as being nazis. That was sick. Especially with our theraputic and passion oriented culture, it is just sickening.

Fox actually did air it, just after they announced that they were uncancelling “Family Guy”

I wonder if this mockery of God confirms atheists/secularists in their belief system. By treating God as a “Santa Claus” figure they don’t have to deal with their spirituality.

God does not force anyone to have an active spiritual life. You can turn away. Family guy makes it easy for people to ignore that nagging feeling that maybe, just maybe their is a purpose to their life–to love.

I enjoyed Family Guy and South Park, but when friends try to watch it I just leave. Eventually they get the idea.

OTOH, I try to take a case by case basis. The Bender episode in Furturama had some positive elments. But South Park and Family Guy have a running attitude about life–a lack of spirituality that makes them poison.

Peace

Michael,

<< But South Park and Family Guy have a running attitude about life–a lack of spirituality that makes them poison.>>

And, sadly, some don’t realize they are being poisoned, amidst the laughter.
