Actually, the Vatican does recognise that many of the Eastern Orthodox Churches do retain valid sacraments, though in schism with Rome.Although there are certain similarities between Catholic and non-Catholic worship services such as gospel readings, let us remember that non-Catholic services lack the most important thing–the Eucharist. It’s actually the very center of the Mass and without it, it’s not just the same. We notice that although non-Catholic masses do have eucharistic consecrations, it’s not really valid and they do not put as much emphasis to it as Catholics do because I don’t think they really believe in transubstantation.
In fact most of those who left the Catholic Church and subsequently returned tell that the reason why they rejoined the Church is that they felt a hunger for the Eucharist.
