Do you ever bow before you receive the Eucharist?

All should, few do. Same with many other things, all should respond, pray and sing together when at Mass, but only some do.

One that gets me is when I’m the only one signing and everyone around me is quiet. It puts a damper on my own singing, but I wonder to myself often, don’t they know they should be participating?

I think many people are just poorly Catechized and don’t know how to participate in Mass.

I think I would would feel extremely strange and disrespectful if I didn’t bow. (Personally, I would prefer kneeling.)

Don’t worry. We shall forgive you this time. But never make a mistake again on CAF or we shall burn you at the stake. 🙂 Well, maybe just toast you. It depends on the general mood of the day.

I bow. If I were 20 years younger and know what I know today, I might genuflect if called for. (Trust me, you don’t want to chance what would happen if I tried that today).

Yes, all the time. The GIRM in the United States calls for us to bow while in line (when the person in front of us is receiving). Everyone is supposed to bow or kneel before receiving communion.
I am surprised to hear this. A priest told the congregation “don’t bow to the backside of the person in front of you, wait to bow until you approach the Sacrament”. But I see that most people do bow “in advance” of arriving.

Since the GIRM says to bow your head no one is bowing to anyone’s backside.

Oh c’mon Stephie. 🙂 Didn’t you say you were going to start frequenting the gym as a spring time resolution.

Sure. A gym with springs. Unfortunately, no springs up by Father distributing the Eucharist.

Genuflect instead of bow, if it’s not too crowded (i.e., daily mass) I’ll just kneel to receive. But I’ll bow my head to the chalice if I pass it by.

What works best for me is to wait for the person in front of me to receive Holy Communion and walk away, and only then when I have a clear view of the Blessed Sacrament I bow before it BEFORE I take another step towards it to receive it.

Every time.

In my congregation, we also receive it kneeling. It is Christ’s Body and Blood. Why would I not show the appropriate awe and thanks and wonder and adoration in His presence?

I do a brief kneel. I wish we had communion rails or that it was common to receive kneeling buts its not near me.

I bow.It was good to hear the priest remind people to recently.

I bow, genuflecting wouldn’t work for me as there is no means of upwards propulsion after getting down on my knee… age 60 and arthritis.

Yes, I always bow before receiving the Eucharist unless I am kneeling at a Communion Rail.
