Do you ever confess a certain sin fairly often?

I usually confess a certain sin often and to the same confessor, and I always get paranoid that the priest just thinks, “Wow! Again?” How can I get over this? Has anyone had this happen to them? It’s funny because I always have the urge to go back to confession whenever I commit it again. 🤷

Well…if it is the sin im thinking of…yeah I confess the same one about every too weeks. I look at it as an opportunity to practice a form of humility. It’s not fun, but what is the alternative? Surrender to sin? No chance.

The confession is still valid if you intend to mend your ways and not do it again, right?

Repeat sin is one of the main (the other being my lack of a regular church, and perhaps opposite of some here, my desire to offer confession to a Priest I am not in regular contact with) reasons that I’ve been delaying my return to confession.

Less that I have a problem revealing my sins than that I don’t want to take to a “rinse / repeat” method of confessing.

Absolutely valid. If repeat sins could not be forgiven, we would all be doomed. Just have true intention to mend your ways and sin no more.

I like going to the same priest (our Parish only has one) as he knows me. But I always remember I’m confessing to the same person anyways; Jesus!

I may not be talking about the same sin, but yes, I confess some sins all the time because I am still working on them. I stay with one regular confessor, and when I go to him, I just address it by saying something like, “about …” and I tell him where I am at with that particular sin, where I have improved or backslid and my efforts to change. It works well that way.

Yes, I confess the same sin every time I go to confession (being uncharitable to my husband). For the most part, I just don’t like him ( I know, I know).:o 🤷 I know my priest must get tired of giving me the same ol advice.

Of course.

A priest once said to me after my confession: “Never be ashamed of confessing the same things week after week. That’s the human condition”.

Please go on confessing your sins over and over again. There must come a time that you will get over them. Due to my experience, I tend to believe that there are sins which are regular at a certain age or circumstance of life, the only remedy is to repent and try again with a new resolution. If I look back in my earlier years, I see that God has been defeating repeat sins one after another in my life (I lost the desire for those sins, and for others God sent me circumstances where I did not have any motive for the sin anymore). The sacrament gives us a lot of grace, on our own would perish forever. And I never forgot the plea of my priest many many years ago - never let a day pass without saying some prayers, even if you committed a mortal sin on that day.

Yes, I’m sure most of us do. Humans are habitual creatures and sins are not easily dislodged. Going to confession each time will help you become more aware of what you are doing. In order to amend your life, take practical steps like avoiding ‘triggers’ for your sins (the old ‘near occasions’ of sin).

The priest is not tracking or tallying your sins. And I’m sure you aren’t doing anything that 6 other people in the confession line are also confessing. :o

Keep going to confession, don’t let your embarrasment stop you from receiving the graces you need to conquer your sins.

don’t worry about repeat confessions. The priests don’t worry and have said to many people the same.

I’ve certainly been told a few times

I really try to think of other sins, but when I go (about every other week), it is usually the same stuff like neglecting prayer, getting annoyed at my mother, being short with a co-worker, ect.
