Like you aren’t accomplishing anything? I desperately want to do God’s will and follow his plan for me. I have been praying about it for some time. But as I am waiting for a decision, I feel like I am accomplishing nothing. I am tired of just sitting around, going to school/work, and repeating. I feel like I should be doing something to make a difference in the world. I want to do what I can to obtain salvation and help others as well, but I don’t think I am doing that right now.

Any advice would be helpful.

Don’t look for some big accomplishment. Do your best in the little things in life. It could be that someday you encourage someone else, and that this may not seem like very much to you, but it turns around the person’s life and they become a big influence for good in many other people’s lives. So your little good deed has a big effect down the line.

Sometimes God wants us to do little things in the situations that He is already placing us. You could make a change in individual lives at school or work by bringing them closer to Christ & the Church, praying for the conversion of sinners, and fulfilling the duties of your state of life. These little things are great in the eyes of God, even though they seem small. Later, God may ask bigger things of you but right now you can still make a difference.

I would suggest you consider joining the Legion of Mary. It is a commitment of two hours per week plus a weekly meeting, but you are guided to accomplish small things that are meaningful for those you might visit. You have some options with regards to what you might accomplish, but one of my favorite was visiting seniors lodges. There you might visit with any of a number of individuals who consent to put their names on the list of Catholics. Your task is not to evangelize, but to listen and allow conversations to take their natural turns.

I used to visit with one individual who began by completely ignoring everyone around him, including visitors, but who by the end was anxiously awaiting our weekly chess match…it felt very fulfilling to become so very useful to others by doing such a small thing for them…for there were many who never received any other visitors…

I can think of several responses.

For one thing, God might just be testing your patience. Moses stuffed around in the desert for 40 years before God called him. He probably thought he was all washed up, and that he’d spend the rest of his days under a baking sun looking after a bunch of sheep. You can visualise Moses talking to the sheep - "You know I used to be an Egyptian Prince, on first name terms with Pharaoh, and now all I get to talk to is you! You have no idea how boring ‘Bah’ gets when you’ve heard it for the milionth time. Their response? “Ba…a…ah”, which is sheep for “So what? We’ve heard your whining a million times ourselves.”

I remember asking this question myself when I was a new Christian. One of the pastor’s sons replied, “You might be waiting a very long time. Moses had to wait till he was 80 before he got started.”

I remember thinking to myself, “Thanks a lot! That’s a real help!” I was probably about 30 at the time.

Even Christ had to wait 30 years or thereabouts before He really started His ministry. We don’t know what he might have been doing prior to that other than being a three-day child wonder in the temple, one of these kids who hit the public eye early on and then just seem to fade into oblivion. Maybe He was just making tall tables and yoke for oxen or lower counters for small shop keepers, but His ministry didn’t really begin till His mother nagged him about helping out an embarrassed host at a wedding.

He may be waiting for you to make a move towards helping others - putting in some time with a voluntary organisation for example, rather than worrying about “yourself”.

He might want you to finish your studies first (if you’re at school or college), before launching out on your world beating Catholic revival tent meetings.

Maybe He’s already told you, but you don’'t want to do whatever it is as you’d rather be doing something else.

But if He hasn’t made it clear, just keep doing what you’re doing until He does. In the meantime helping somebody else is always a good way to start.

Do the your daily deeds to your best of your abilities. That is all i can say.

I cannot recommend the Novena to Our Lady Undoer of Knots enough. Reading Saint Faustina’s diary is a great comfort for about anything, also. I just got it yesterday after wanting to for some time. Be patient and follow the example of the multiplication of the loaves and fishes and the wedding feast at Cana: in both instances, they did not have much to give Jesus, but they gave what they had, even if it was only water or a few cheap loaves of bread or a few fish (a priest at mass pointed out once that these were probably the size of sardines or so), they gave it to Jesus and He turned it into enough food for thousands of people and the best wine that the party had had yet, respectively.

Two suggestions:
  1. Volunteer. You will be making a powerful difference.
  2. Read the autobiography of St Therese of Lisieux, called The Story of a Soul. She is a Doctor of the Church and is brilliant at expressing how doing all those mundane things like school and work and prayer will absolutely win souls for Christ! 👍
I’ll keep you in my prayers!

I would look at this as God preparing me to do His work in the world. Right now what you are doing is what He wants you to do. After you have been prepared, God will open the doors for you to do His work, but it might not be what you have envisioned. Do your best now and leave the rest in God’s hands. I suggest you read The Story of a Soul, the autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux and see how this great Saint did great things for God by her “Little Way.” Also read some of Mother Theresa’s writings.

God bless you for wanting to share Jesus with the world.

VOLUNTEER.
Work with :
the poor or
the children who can’t read well, or
the lonely, or
St. Vincent de Paul, or
a food bank, or
a soup kitchen, or
join the choir, or
drive and elderly person to Mass, or
about 100 things you could be doing.

Any of these small things can bring you great joy, and the feeling that you are being the hands and feet of Christ to the best of your ability at this stage in your life.
It’s what we are all called to do.
TAKE ACTION!
Jesus needs workers in the vineyard! :newidea:

I feel like that most of the time. The reality is, what secular society considers a big accomplishment is totally different that what God asks us to do. Look at Brother Andre, he was a door man and purposely given an ‘unimportant’ job. Can anyone tell me the name of those so-called great accomplishers that gave him the job? Very few could, but everyone knows about brother Andree!

Right now I take care of my grandchildren. Sometimes I don’t feek like I an accomplishing anything for myself because most of my day I am meeting their needs and I begin to feel resentful. But then I am reminded that I am thankful they are not going to a day care center and maybe this is where God wants me to be. I wish their Mom had a different job, but I try to be the next best thing to a Mom and hope God still has a plan for me after this.

Random Acts of Kindness. That’s where I would start. Google it. There are many small things we can all do to show love to others. When you get good at that, try doing these acts anonymously. It’s challenging.n:)

Trust in God and his timing.

God Bless You.

I always liked the Jimmy Durante song Make Someone Happy.
