Do you ever lie to your children?

Very trollish, but I’ll bite.

Santa Clause, Easter Bunny, Great Pumpkin, etc… are folk lore. They are not lies. They are stories traditionally told to little children to excite their imaginations. Children grow up to pass on this traditional folklore to their children, although there are some that choose not to.

They are “lies” in the same way that reading Mother Goose to your children is lying to them.

Why?

Because Geese can’t talk.

And if someone is going to object to reading Mother Goose to children because it’s a lie, here’s my response:

Incidentally, thank God that the Catholic Church dismisses the “no lying legalists” with a reasoned, thoughtful approach. She offers us good old moral common sense. No “no lying legalism”.
