Do you ever wear blue jeans to Sunday Mass?

Just funnin’:

Most jeans cost as much as khaki pants, at least as far as men’s clothing is concerned. Old Navy (for example) has both kinds of pants for around the same price.

Furthermore, if jeans were truly “dressy”, then why aren’t there any denim three-piece suits? (I know there were in the 1970s, but… 😃 )

That was a little too graphic:eek:

I don’t get the UTI thing. I’ve lived in SoCal all my life. Unless you have a special medical condition that other women don’t share I’m thinking that there must have been alot of women prior to the 1970’s who had miserable winters because skirts and dresses were all they wore to church back then.
I am prone to UTIs and so is my daughter. Perhaps the problem is pantyhose. We were told not to wear nylon undies, only cotton, but one would think that the WHOLE HOUR that one must wear them would not make a difference.

What is graphic about wearing a black jacket, jeans and black booties (shoes/boots)? I don’t get it…

And yes, I do suffer from re-current urinary tract infections. My mom had the same condition, and as early as the 1940s (when she was about 10) was advised to wear trousers in Winter.

I have heard it said that God loves us regardless of what we wear to mass. Well, I also believe that m mother loves me even if I don’t get her anything for her birthday, but I know she appreciates it. God will still love us, but I am sure He appreciates our best efforts in all things!
For me wearing a spanking new, cleanest bluest pair of jeans is showing my best effort…it’s what I wear to parties, birthdays, I used to wear it to work, even if there were meetings…Maybe it’s different in the US, but here -unless you’re Jehovah’s Witness ot Mormon you just don’t wear a suit/something in that line for ladies, to church. Even the over 60s wear comfortable dresses that they wear all week and a normal raincoat/winterjacket. I see this discussion on American message-boards regularly, and I’m beginning to think, maybe it’s just a cultural thing that I just don’t get…

I’m sure you’re right, it’s not a money-issue…My dh can go into a shop and buy a lovely dressy pair of trousers for under £10 ($20)…so…I see your point. My reason for choosing jeans over any other type of trousers is, that I’m 252 lbs and a British size 24/26. Now, if I wear any other type of trousers they ‘rub’ in the wrong places and split easily: I’ve never had this problem with jeans 👍 Jeans fit better, sit better, are more hard-wearing…and I don’t end up buying a new pair every few weeks! In our parish I’d say of the under-50s 80% wears jeans (blue/white/cream/black or brown), in my age-range 30-40 it’s closer to 100% in Winter. In Summer when the weather is nice I wear a nice stretchy, floaty skirt-as by then most of the other women in the congregation do 😃 .

No, the problem isn’t panty-hose…I’ve tried that a few Winters ago, and still had a UTI within days, only to be told by my GP ‘Told you so’ 😛

You need an OB/GYN or Renal specialist to deal with the problem.
You may have a tipped kidney and once you get renal failure, it’s forever.

Ladies,
The most common contributing factor in getting UTI’s is wiping back to front.

The second most common factor is not urinating after having sexual intercourse.

These are very important health precautions that all women should take. Also, a good practise is to drink lots of water, don’t overdo the coffee, drink cranberry juice, and take non-buffered Vit C. Bacteria don’t like an acidic urine.

Great advice!!!

And if a GP tell you that wearing a skirt in the winter will cause them, run do not walk to another doctor.

LOL, I have to wholeheartedly agree. I’ve never in all my days heard anything of the sort. It sounds ludicrous. I don’t think that’s a proven risk factor. It sounds like a modern folk superstition to me.

Wow, from blue jeans in church to this.

Thank you for your ideas and help, I’m at a GP practise with 5 GPs, so next time I’ll ask another and see what he/she says 👍

I disagree. I was teached by my mom, not to wear “visible” nylon undies. So pantyhose under pants are o.k. during winter. But I cover the pantyhose with cotton socks. This way I create a modest look. It looks like I’m wearing no pantyhose at all !
