I owe some of my best times with God - is via from fasting.
If you give in to eating - you’ve lost the battle - to the flesh.

Not eating - brings focus and clarity - for me -
My spirit awakens…book words come alive - study sky rockets.
Prayer turns into instant communications -

Since I work…like a dog…I have to eat ! ( and sleep )
But Saturday’s and Sunday’s - sure. Maybe some coffee 😉

I fast daily for 14 hours, sometimes more. It does include my 8 hours sleep. 😉

I then usually eat my meals within 3-6 hours, I don’t do lunch. So breakfast around 9-10am and then “dinner” around 3-4pm. The latest I will eat is 6pm. This is my natural body rhythm.

Currently, I am sick with a cold but once I am back to my normal self I intend to fast two days a week, and eat only one meal consisting of soup, and offer the prayers for my family, my intentions, and others.

I find it incredibly spiritually helpful and because I eat in a certain pattern already it isn’t hard to skip one meal of two. 🌷

I wouldn’t recommend anyone doing anything in the fasting department without seeking pastoral and medical advice.

Such discipline is essential. The moderate practice of fasting makes one stronger, more focused and effective during times of stress.

I admire this drac,I’ve been drinking more coffee and know I need to cut down.I get the headaches also when I stop.
My metabolism is such that I need to eat in time or I have some hypoglycaemia (vague thinking, less co-ordinated ,feeling weak)
When I eat simply I think more clearly and deeply…I can pray and concentrate much more easily

I also feel like for those of us who have to remind ourselves that it’s meal time and we need to eat something even if we don’t want to, fasting is somewhat less effective as a sacrifice.

Fasting is not for everyone.

However for people like me who have a hard time saying no to food, especially free food 🥘, fasting helps us a lot by instilling self discipline.

It also helps us put food in its proper place. Surprisingly, I have enjoyed food even more with fasting.

I do this type of fast twice weekly, it is the
form of “basic training” for me, prayer, fasting
and alms-giving, it is a PROVEN spiritual
discipline!!

I should fast regularly . I believe it is an important weapon in spiritual warfare .

Usually the food I eat on any given day is not much more than we are allowed to eat on an obligatory day of fasting .

I am obliged to abstain from meat on Fridays , which I do , only to replace it with one of my favourites from the chippy…

I’ve always wanted to try that.

I do fast in small things often but seldom the big water and bread thing. Sometimes it’s just not having something I’d like or having simple food without sauce, salt, gravy or anything nice on it. Or cutting out snacks and treats, or choosing water or simple thing over what I really want.
I live in UK so the abstinence from meat on Fridays is a given and I do that. The small things are sometimes just part of life, so passive (something I accept) and sometimes active (my choice). They aren’t always food and can be giving up activities in life or social media etc. or even choosing to read a spiritual book rather than a novel. Any act of self denial teaches you to fight sin or so I think anyway.

I dont fast
I’m not big on it either and haven’t done it for years. We used to do a total fast for 24 hours, no food no water, nothing. I generally found that the headaches were so irritating that there was little benefit to be derived from the attempt, so I gave it up a long time ago.
