Do you fear death?

Sounds a bit legalistic. Is Allah always that demanding? Where is the mercy?
 
I don’t fear death. I suppose I’m like tawhhedah in the sense that I worry I haven’t done enough in my life. Still, I trust in His mercy, even if I can only have a tiny place where I can be with Him…

I laughed while reading this post. Islam has the most obscure sense of knowledge about God; aka ‘Allah’.
 
I think that if my kids were adults I would be more accepting of death. Until then I fear it.
 
Just turned 50, Catholic (convert from evangelical Protestantism).

Not afraid of death, but terrified of certain deaths:
  1. being eaten by something (grizzly bear, lion, pit bull, cannibal)
  2. falling off a high place–I don’t even like to be on the top bunk of bunk beds. The idea of jumping off the Trade Towers terrified me.
  3. burning at the stake
  4. being murdered, especially with a knife or any kind of impaling
  5. being hanged
  6. being drowned in my car after I go out of control and over an bridge into water
 
I fear death,for the mere reason that,I have too many dependents,financially,spiritually and emotinally.Otherwise,I’m ready to go anytime!

And here’s the answer to the second part of your question. As for our souls, they go to a place called Barzagh, it’s where the souls are kept and Allah SWT decides who stays and who goes and He tells the angels who to return and who stays…

Allah’s mercy is far greater than his wrath, but the first thing we will be asked about when questioned by the two angels is our prayer, something which we have control over.

I do not fear death and I could careless how I die. Though I would prefer to drowned only because its a peaceful way to die and the ocean was my first love.

Religion: Catholic/Agnostic… depends on the day

Hi Vickie, sorry I just noticed your question. Barzagh is death. When we are asleep, Allah takes our souls and then he decides who gets their soul back, who continues to live, and who stays there (in Barzagh… where our souls go when we die to await the day of judgement). I hope that makes sense.

If you’ve ever heard the saying “sleep is the cousin of death”, it’s similar to that but more spiritual.

so is Barzagh kinda like Catholic Purgatory?? A waiting place for judgement??? or is that a good description of Purgatory, maybe not.

No that isn’t the best description of Purgatory. Purgatory is more like a waiting room for heaven - where you are purified of minor sins or other imperfections before entering God’s presence where nothing imperfect can exist. Everyone in Purgatory will get into heaven after this process of purification.

Those who are destined for hell go straight there, not to purgatory or heaven.
 
I don’t fear death. The whole dying part, though, sounds painful. I don’t want to die while my daughter needs me or to die in some terribly painful manner.

ok so that leaves out Barzagh, we will have to wait on the defination for it. Thanks, for yours, quick question I thought there was a waiting room for hell too, I was getting the impression that there was second chances after one dies, or is that just for purgatory, if this derails maybe we should start a new thread or pm??:confused:

So it means that when you sleep you actually die, until Allah decides whether you stay dead or are allowed to live again?

Meister Eckhart said in God there is only pure joy and no sadness, so one should not fear God and trust in him. I think that could summarise my hope; the vision of God in and through him for eternity could only be eternal and endless joy, with no imperfection, and nothing less. So death should be accepted with a deep sense of peace and reconciliation with oneself and with God.
 
We all will die eventually. It is how I die that frightens me. What I need to know is what happens when I die? Has anybody had near death or out of body experience?. There are people who say they see their loved ones, some see Jesus, some a great light at the end of a tunnel. Will anybody share this?

The Catholic Church does not seem to have a take on this as far as I know.
