Do you fear that you may go to Hell?

I don’t exactly fear going to Hell, but accept that except for God’s mercy it would be our common destination. I am absolutely in Christ’s hands, He who redeemed us. I cannot save myself.
True.

I place my hope on God’s mercy.

I’m interested in opinions from all Religions.

Do you ever think that you may not make it to Heaven based on the tenants of your Religion, or are you sure that you will go to Heaven?
St. Paul was:
“But I chastise my body and bring it into subjection: lest perhaps, when I have preached to others, I myself should become a castaway.” (I Cor. ix. 27)

Our measurements of time don’t pertain to God. Who knows, maybe one second may be 100 years, and 100 years is one second.
from"Oh, God!":

God: "…remember, one of my days isn’t exactly like one of your days. When I woke up this morning, Sigmund Freud was still in Medical School.”

I’m a failure in this life, so it wouldn’t surprise me if I’m a failure in the afterlife. 😦

Romans5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.** 6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.** 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. 11 And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. 12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned— 13 for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. 16 The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification. 17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. 18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. 20 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I know that I am on my way to Heaven right now.

My salvation comes from God, but it is an active, living thing that only works when I cooperate with it. 🙂

Right now? Have you got insurance?

Then you know better than St. Paul?

when i live according to the Catholic Church, and i commune frequently and say prayers, i feel extremely confident that i am NOT going to hell

Ok, everyone, let’s pray:

Lord God Almighty, I come before you, your most unworthy servant, having sinned against You. There is no way to justify my actions, and I am sorry. I thank you, Jesus, for sacrificing yourself for someone like me, and I ask Your forgiveness. Lord, I don’t want to go to hell; I want to go to heaven, even though I know I don’t deserve it. Please, Father, through the merits of Your only son, Jesus Christ, help me to get there. I know it will take work on my part. It will not be easy. I will need to turn away from my sins and do good things in Your name. I need to learn how to love You, and to love my neighbor. I will do my best, but I’m only human and I can never be perfect. Sometimes I go astray. Please, I beg You, never give up on me. I humbly ask you do whatever it takes to wake me up. Even though I try so hard to do Your will, it’s not always easy. But I hope that You will keep pulling me back, as many times as it takes. Let me live with the confidence that You love me and that there’s hope for me. Dear Lord, I love You and I praise you, for You are all good! Amen.

I just wrote it up in a flash, and I invite anyone to improve on it who wishes!

Let me also suggest: daily prayer, bible reading, regular mass attendance and reconciliation. Consider the rosary and various chaplets (I say the Chaplet of St. Michael, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Chaplet of Holy Wounds, and Chaplet of the Sacred Heart of Jesus daily). Pray the Seven Sorrows chaplets on Tuesdays and Fridays. Look up the promises associated with these prayers online. As I recall, one who devoutly prays these (and/or propagating them to others) should be able to skip purgatory, or have it greatly reduced. Look up the promises of devotion to First Friday and First Saturday attendance as well!

God Bless!

Sounds good to me!🙂

I try to focus on my faith in Christ rather than any fear in hell. I prefer to despise my sins for the slavery they represent rather than despise myself because my sins might lead me to hell.

So, how do you account for all the instances where we are warned that salvation can be lost? Even Paul speaks of working though his salvation with fear and trembling.
Your understanding is that you can lose your salvation. Mine is that you can’t lose it. That would be an entire different thread! So I won’t elaborate.

1 John 2:19

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out, that it might be plain that they all are not of us.

Paul’s words in Philippians 2:12 were ‘work out your salvation with fear and trembling’. Please understand he said work ‘out’, not work ‘on’ your salvation. Working ‘out’ requires that you actually have something to work ‘out’. If one is truly saved, and not going to hell, they are still required to work ‘out’ their salvation. Thanks for the reply!

Based on the tenants of the Bible, I can be confident that I am in a state of grace, or that I am in need of reconciliation. I do not see in my Catholic faith (including its highest level of authority of Sacred Scripture) where we should be led to believe that we are invincible from disowning the faith at any point in our journey.

Love is the remedy for fear. This is God`s gift.

If I were to die today, I’m convinced that I would go to Hell. I sometimes feel as though I’m the worst sinner in the world. I’m not what I once was-- and I have no one to blame but myself.

So what are you going to do about it today?

I would see your confession as the beginning of conversion. You are right there, just about to call Jesus your brother.

Well said Jacob…

Yet - then the question becomes - can one know that they “truly saved” or not. Certainly those who “went out from us”…believed themselves to be saved during the time that they “…continued with us”.

But as you say - that might be another thread…

Peace
James
