Do you feel offended by people who come to the CC dressed as if they were at a barbeque in their backyard?

Let me see Wisdomseeker, I have a pair of designer jeans that I purchased after I lost 110 pounds. They are not tight or inappropriate and I wear them with a white embellished blouse. This pair of jeans cost me $180. So you are intimating that I should go to Wallyworld and buy a cheap illfitting knit skirt and wear that instead of my well fitting very conservative jean outfit?

I travel to Europe quite often, and guess what, women wear exactly the same styles as they do in the States! Where exactly are you getting your dress code for women? I’m really interested as to your exact source. When I’m in Scotland, I see men wearing kilts, are they also to be chastised for not adhering to “your” particular standards? How do you feel about women attending college and becoming professionals? Is it OK that we vote if it isn’t OK that we dress in appropriate clothes that our culture accepts? What would you do if you went to see a physician and she was dressed in scrubs? It must be sad to live in your perfect little world. Please, however, answer the question that we have all asked - “Where
did you receive your divine revelation about women wearing skirts and no pants?”

How far over are people bowing at Communion?

We don’t bow our body over. We only bow our head.

Lady’s butts thou, in jeans, still would be showing. Awful, just awful 😛

The Vatican dress code has restrictions based upon modesty concerns, not style concerns.
Thank you, I was thinking the same thing.

Oh, goodie. Another thread about what everyone thinks is “acceptable” attire for church!

To the OP: I dress modestly and I manage to wear slacks  which seem to make it to your verboten list. At my age and size, 😊 I think pants are more “modest” than a skirt. I also live the in the NE and it gets downright cold in the winter months. I don’t wear jeans or tees - it isn’t my style that’s all (being older).

That being said, I am clean, pressed and in a pew. That is where the Lord wants me and if He has an issue with my wardrobe, I am confident He’ll let me know. 😉

Peace,
Trinity

Not suits, but his robes could’ve been all of silk, they could’ve been dyed with expensive purple dye, they could’ve been decorated with fine gold embroidery and gemstones, they could’ve been dressy in any number of ways. On top of which he could’ve loaded his person with tons of gold and gems in the form of jewellery as well.

They weren’t and he didn’t. These two facts alone speak VOLUMES.
Why then did the Centurions fight over his cloak?

Besides, that was my point. Robes were the norm, whether they were expensive robes or cheap robes. As it was 50 years ago, there were expensive suits and there were cheap suits, but people suit-up because its the norm. Today is a more casual society, jeans are the norm. There are $500 jeans and there are $20 jeans. Its all about following the norms of society.

What I wear really depends on what time of year it is. If it is in the winter I will normally wear a suit and tie (in fact I’m one of the few people at my parish to do so.) If it is during the summer I will generally wear a pair of jeans and a nice shirt. Only when it is really hot out will I wear shorts to a Sunday mass. Now if it is a weekday mass I’ll go in whatever I am wearing that day. (Normally a nice golf shirt and a pair of shorts. (Yes I wear shorts all year long. :D) Now with that said, I generally work on Saturday so I go to Saturday evening mass (Yes I go both Saturday night and Sunday morning) in what ever I am wearing to work that morning, but as I said I am generally dressed nicer for Sunday morning mass.
Now I did dress up a bit for All Saints Day and All Souls day this past week, and I will do so for the upcoming Advent and Christmas season, but I do have to watch how much wear I put on my suit because it is the only one I own and I am a graduate student having to work and to beg to get by. :o

 $180 bucks!!! For pair of jeans? No offence but those things must be bullet proof and fire-retardant. For that money you could have purchased 3 pairs at JCPenny 😉 It’s your money and not going to say what to do with that, but in my humble opinion that is way too much just for some jeans, i could have easily given half to a charitable foundation.

Wisdomeseeker man they are really calling you out, but I have to agree you haven’t answered their questions you have only responded with questions.

I’ve only been offended once. It was at a Good Friday service, and a teenage poured into a micro-mini jeans skirt 2 sizes too small bent over to kiss the crucifix. In her attempt to yank down her skirt with one hand to cover her tushie, 2/3ds of her thong sprang into view. The entire congregation tittered, my husband (and other men) immediately covered their eyes, and the teen giggled. I was mostly offended by how she had single-handedly broke up what had been up till that point a profound and serious moment for all the rest of us.

As for dress - I pretty much only have one outfit that I wear to Mass, same one for years. We are not well to do. It is a pair of black knit pants and whatever shirt is least stained or ripped at the moment. It is the best I can do, and I’m sure the Lord understands. My husband and son both wear jeans and a shirt with sleeves. When it is over 100 degrees, I allow my son to wear shorts.

Our Priest wears flipflops under his robe most of the year. In the summer he wears shorts and a tank top, and he ditches the robe as soon as he passes the vestry on the way out. It can get to 119 degrees here and there is no air-conditioning. So we shake hands with him looking very much like he’s at a bbq, actually. He is not a young, nor a very liberal Priest, but he has a horrendous schedule (4 churches he has to travel to for Mass - tight schedule up a mountain and around an enormous lake), and in the last couple years he has become medically fragile, so we wouldn’t mind if he showed up naked under that robe, to tell the truth! Just so grateful to have Mass!

And yes, we live in a rural area – men wear jeans and cowboy boots and hats to weddings and funerals. Its considered formal dress. Women wear a little of everything. Unlike the city where I used to live, most people here don’t discuss other folk’s dress, and no one is judged by what they wear.

Folks on this board sometimes make a point of saying, “well as long as it is clean.” What they don’t understand is water in poor areas is not free, nor clean, nor always available. Our well has run dry on many occasions and we have to haul water a distance, which takes a toll on our one vehicle. So just having clean clothing is a luxury much of the time. Our water tends to be rusty and a bit dirty, so even when we wash our stuff carefully, it comes out dingy.

Answer what?

those who refuse to respect the House of God have already made their choice.
I can not make anyone see.
I have requested for everyone to consider reverence for the House of God. reverence in all things and also how they dress when going to the House of God. there is nothing to answer. Skirt and dress is very appropriate when going to the House of God.
We need to cooperate in restoring reverence back into the CC.

and here I am thinking that this is a Traditional area.

No one is suggesting that a skirt/dress is not appropriate, but we are suggesting that they are not the only thing appropriate. Why are nice jeans or slacks inappropriate?

Sorry but I’m a 62 year old man and I’m definitely not going to wear a skirt or dress to Mass!!

LOL! There are many traditional Catholics who dress like normal professionals who live in the early 21st century! May I be so bold as to inquire how old you are and where you live? You still have not explained to us wherenin any documents of the CC where women wearing pants are not allowed. Do you live in Utah?? 🤷

I think this is for the ladies. Man should stop wearing shorts and flip flop and tshirts in the House of God.

If you refuse to back up your assertions with fact, then we can only be led to believe that they**** are erroneous.

Wasn’t the cloak in particular given to him by pilot?
