Do you feel that the homosexual equality/rights movement is targeting Christians?

I take exception to the wording of the post, too.

Homosexuals HAVE equality. They HAVE every right that I have. One of the enemy’s best tactics is to change the battleground by changing the meaning of words.
Homosexuals would argue that they do not have equality. The Equal Rights Amendment has not been passed in America (that covers women too), in the UK they don’t have the same status as heterosexual married couples, and don’t forget that worldwide they’re still attacked and often killed. Equality exists in the mind as well as in law.

But sorry for causing offence. The homosexuals call the movement equality/rights as it runs now, so what else should I call it?

Looking beyond the Movement’s human actors,
the homosexual rights movement,
like the pro-Abortion movement,
is a coordinated, direct Demonic Frontal Attack on
the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit.

Do you think the homosexual rights/equality movement is targeting Christians deliberately, or we’re just collateral damage?

Or are we being damaged/attacked at all?
No, Because many homosexuals belong to Christian sects and some of the sects will perform marriage ceremonies. I find it acceptable that the Catholic Church leadership decide that they will not perform Same-sex marriage or civil unions while other Christian sects will allow same-sex marriage or civil unions. It should not be the decision of one Christian sect in our society to not allow gay adoption or marriage since we live in a plural society.

The funny things is, on a personal level, former high school friends of mine, whom I still chat with on occasion and who are gay, have never said anything even remotely attacking the Church for her position.

However, my straight, yet incredibly liberal and support gay-“marriage”, “friends” are the ones who are unfriending me from Facebook and refuse to talk with me because I’m faithfully Catholic.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d almost say the liberals have commandeered the “homosexual rights” cause for their own use, just to have something else to fight with conservatives on.

If the majority of a community pass a law that says 2 + 2 = 5 because they see some good in that conclusion, the conclusion, nonetheless, remains false.

If a community chooses to ignore the existence of God and His expectations because they see some good in that ignorance, their perception is, nonetheless, false. I cannot applaud or promote laws that make it easier for people to move further away from God.

Life is all about the good use of freedom and not doing more or less than is prudent in the long run. The long run is eternity – Heaven or Hell.

There can be no NEW Moral Code but only a rejection of THE Moral Code established by God in our Hearts and affirmed by constant teaching and acceptance by each generation.

Yet we know that some people have always rejected God whenever their understanding of what God wants for us out of His abundant Love for us differs from what THEY want. It started with Lucifer. So, yes, it is proper to see this as Spiritual Battle.

***Holy Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. ***
***Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. ***
***May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, ***
***and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Hosts, ***
***cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits ***
who wander the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Well spoken, Fred!

I believe by attempting to redefine marriage, they are deliberately striking at one of the cornerstones of civilization adn the Christian faith (whtehr Catholic or otherwise).

So yes—in one way or another, the CC and Christianity in general ARE under attack. 😦
Yes and No. No, it’s not an evil conspiracy where gays sit around, twist their mustache tips and cackle with glee over every new idea for ‘sticking it to the christians.’

But yes, they DO believe that our morality is archaic and repressive and that our worldview is one that must be marginalized for theirs to be culturally accepted. In that sense, of course they are targeting christianity (if not christians individually). We stand in the way of the culture they envision. In all fairness, that’s precisely the way we see their ideals too: dangerously destructive to society.

But to a certain extent, it’s hard to blame them. 100 years ago, marriage was defined thus: “Marriage is the union of a man and woman united in the unbreakable Grace filled bond of a self sacrificial love so great that it holds the potential to bring forth and nurture new life.” Not coincidentally, nobody took the idea of ‘gay marriage’ seriously back then.

About 50-70 years ago, few noticed when marriage was redefined to “marriage is the union of man and woman who are filled with a feeling of love for each other and want to publicly celebrate that feeling and have it go on forever.” This is a pathetically watered down definition (and ironically impossibly utopian at the same time), but was considered necessary by those who desperately wanted to legitimize contraception in marriage. They had to highlight and exaggerate the romantic feelings aspect of marriage in an attempt to replace the central place of procreation that was being discarded. What they didn’t foresee was that there is no longer any compelling reason in that new definition for the two to be of opposite sexes. Therefore, to a certain extent, gay activists are merely demanding that society follow the logic they’ve already embraced to its logical conclusion. If marriage is nothing more than a committment to maintaining that fuzzy feeling, how can it be right to deny it to gay people?
Excellent post-------very good show.

What about what the gay community say? Have they ever announced a stance or something memorable against Christians that anyone can think of?

Hi, L&L. 🙂

It is difficult to judge from afar, the political tone in another country. The best one can do is to read bits and pieces in the press, and even the most erudite, informed reader will not get the “flavor” of a movement, a “Cause,” or any political fight unless he or she spends considerable time in that country, possibly visiting the regions in which that cause is hotly debated. That’s all an excuse on my part 😉 – a legitimate one, I think – to justify not having a firm grasp myself on emotional undertones of ‘gay rights’ efforts in the UK.

Therefore, it’s possible that the equivalent is also true. From afar, it’s hard to get a feel for the vitriol – and it has been vitriol – coming overwhelmingly from the Left, and from the most activist members of the Gay Lobby, in the States. Unfortunately, as with many political movements, the loudmouths and sensationalists are the ones who get remembered and published, not the ones engaging in sedate debate. (Thus, the strident and unpleasant “Reverend” Fred Phelps gets remembered for having the audacity, poor taste, and lack of compassion, for showing up at places like funerals for homosexuals, and picketing. Not a Christian thing to do; extremely doubtful that Jesus would ever approve of such an action.)

But other than that, I cannot think of any “Christian” orchestrated movement, hate campaign, or anything of the sort – consisting of name-calling, persecution, etc. even during the specific ballot measures. I can, however, recall many attacks against Christians from (a) homosexual activists and (b) the mainstream media. And I don’t have to reach far back into my memory at all: Try one week. MSNBC, the water-carriers for the Gay Lobby in the U.S., virtually every week associates Christians with 'those who hate gays," equates every rational attempt to restrict traditional marriage with Christianity or Catholicism exclusively (which is inaccurate), and links those attempts to “hate.” I don’t make it up. It’s their words. I’m sure the tapes are archived.

Not all gays, or even most gays, “target” Christians, or slander them, ridicule & marginalize them. In fact, interestingly, I don’t recall having heard Rachel Maddow – whom I consider a person with a lot of decency – put “hate” and “Christian” in the same sentence; as far as I’m concerned, she’s a far kinder & more thoughtful person among those who identify as lesbian/homosexual than her heterosexual peers: Lawrence O’Donnell (the worst), Cenk Uyger, Chris Matthews (shame on him, an active Catholic), Ed Schultz. Martin Bashir is such a gentleman that I doubt that he has engaged in that rhetoric, so I will absent him from his MSNBC peers.

But again, the spokespeople for any movement (activists) are often irresponsible about name-calling, and nowhere has this been more true than during voter campaigns, demonstrations, etc., by homosexuals who equate the word Christian with the word hate. In two recent high-profile legislative & judicial battles, it was the people in authority, who hold office (probably most/all straight), who equated Christianity with “hatred” of gays – and based legislative and judicial decisions upon such nonsense. I don’t make that up, either. The misrepresentation of the religious positions is right there in the official wording of these decisions.

So here in the States the hate campaign against Christians comes from 2 sources: (1) gay activists and (2) their secondary spokespeople, the Left (mainstream media – CNN, MSNBC, NY Times, the newspapers in most of the major metro regions); in other words, what dominates the discussion in the public square: it’s all about those “hateful” Christians.

I think the main thing that is happening now is that homosexual advocates are monitoring a lot of blog websites, especially Christian one, and then when there is any post or conversation regarding Christian marriage or being opposed to homosexual marriage they come on and spam the discussion. I’m somewhat surprised it is not happening here, but it is happening on most sites, e.g., here’s just one example, on a Catholic women’s site:

littlecatholicbubble.blogspot.com/2011/06/stop-moping-around.html

The homosexual advocates must have their browsers on search for any thread that mentions things like traditional marriage, etc., and then in a few posts they come in as trolls and flame the thread. The Christian Post is getting it the worst, you should see how the posters trash all their stories on marriage over there, they’ve basically shut down the comment feature on their stories. Here’s one example of that, look at the comments:

christianpost.com/news/john-piper-laments-normalization-of-homosexuality-as-the-new-calamity-51760/

So yes, the homosexuals are vicious, vitriolic and will do whatever they can to shout down a moral voice in this country.

I’ve had this same experience. When I discuss marriage from the catechism, homosexual acquaintances calmly accept my explanation. They don’t agree with me, but they don’t get belligerent about it either. Oddly I’ve been attacked more by Catholics who want me to cite secular statistics instead of the catechism.

Do you really know any better?
Equality movements may well be about promoting a leftist agenda far more than they have anything to do with what gays really desire for themselves.

I think homosexuality is wrong, but I also believe the Southern Baptist/Mormon war on gays is wrong.

We must never forget to love even the sinful.

While individual homosexuals may not be at with with Christianity (as I know some who are practicing living chastly and in an active Christian faith), the movement itself certainly is. Any use of religion is seen as hate speech

Homosexuals persue their right to marry because they love each other and want some of the benefits too (like tax breaks).

They only seem as if they are “attacking” the Church because the Church is blocking their progress. Government was set up to be and should be secular. Not based on ANY sort of faith. In short, the Church’s opinion doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is what gays are fighting for, and that is equality. One of the principles this country was founded upon.

Anyone can have any belief system they want, but would you like it very much if you lived in a country whose people are mostly Muslim (for example) and who forced you to practice parts of their faith because it was law? Nope. That’s what England did once upon a time, and that’s why people got out of there.

For the most part, no. Some do though, but it is not out to destroy christianity. It is a reaction to the judging and hate that they perceive coming from christianity. Some of their anger is founded as many christians are hateful and judging (just as there are many who are loving and nonjudgmental). Our society today is reacting to the restrictive ways of the past. It’s standard.

Most gay people just want to feel accepted for something they cannot control. Feelings of love for another person, but these feelings are towards someone of the same sex. Put yourself in a gay person’s shoes for a moment. How awful would it feel to be told you couldn’t love a certain person (who is of age and with consent…) and that your feelings are not only wrong but an “abomination” and if you act on these feelings of love, you will burn in hell for eternity. The fact that there is no conclusive evidence suggesting people are not born gay, it’s pretty hurtful.

So some get very angry. Sadly, I think christians focus on the very few who do want to attack christianity and demonizes the rest of the gay community.

It’s the “Us vs. Them” mentality that people seem to indulge into. It’s empowering and very prideful. Since christianity seems to be losing it’s control on society due to a very diverse world, it’s doing everything it can to maintain that control. Fighting against secular gay marriage is a losing battle and efforts against it are really pointless. Is there any conclusive evidence that gay marriage will “destroy” society?

Gays do feel discriminated and they are. And many people use religion to justify hate (not all christians are hateful, but there are people that twist religion for personal means).

I think both sides need to get over the stereotype they have of each other and listen to one another.

And yes, I do believe that gays do love one another and not just running on lust. They are just like straight people, but the only difference is who they are attracted to. Nothing more, nothing less.

As a deep-closet homosexual, I have to say that they’re clashing with Christians and they also have some who will come down on religion because they don’t understand its stance on homosexuality.

Most gays will believe that Christianity believes that all gays should be dead and burned, amongst other violent things, when in actuality they should just refrain from giving in to their desires. But I can’t say that some rather ‘vocal’ Christians brought that upon the entire religion through their violent ways towards gays.

The way that I see it is that there should be a point where they can see eye-to-eye. Yes, religion trumps any cultural law but there are many who are not Christian that just can’t be ignored. I think that everyone should be able to practice what they want, believe what they want, just do not shove it down people’s throats. Also, gays should not have ‘gay marriage’ they should understand that marriage was given to us by God for a man and woman, so the religion that some gays claim to ‘hate’ want to be ‘married’ is just hypocritical.

Since I’m on both sides of this discussion, some on each side have caused the side they were fighting for to look bad. Such as violent Christians to gays and gays that belittle religion without any care. I think that due to huge misunderstandings, it has devolved to this.

I don’t see how they are not equal, ALL people (regardless of sexual orientation), have the right to marry someone of the opposite gender whom they are not related to. Its not like you have to fill out a survey at the courthouse about your sexuality or your future sex life. What gays want is SPECIAL treatment. What’s next? Pologamous marriages? Incestious marriages? Bestiality marriages? Pedophilic marriages?

I don’t know whether the individuals themselves are targeting Catholics but I do believe that the most radical are surely aware that Catholicm is the strongest voice speaking out against them.I believe that there are quite a few that are very anti Catholic(and christian)who wish the Catholic influence on society would disappear.Who wish the Catholic Church were out of society altogether and keep the views in their churches.

Of course they are targeting Christianity, because it teaches that sodomy is wrong. Homosexual activists don’t just want to believe they are right they want everyone else to believe it as well. That can’t happen if you have a powerful group teaching that sodomy is wrong.

Although I wonder if they don’t see other groups as powerful or if they are just afraid that the Muslims would do more than just prayer for them?
