Do you genuflect when you see the Blessed Sacrament on TV?

I think I am watching the celebration of Mass in another place, most likely pre-recorded, in either case I am not present at the celebration. It does however recall that all the sacrifices of all the Masses on all the altars of the world throughout time sanctify it and make Christ present in it, and that is miracle enough to rejoice in, until the next time I can be physically as well as spiritually present. In general I am not at a state in my life where I have emotional reactions to such things, and when I do contemplate them it is at a more contemplative less reactive level.
Me too.

No and I dont kiss the Television screen in the place that the popes fishermans ring is being projected to when the pope is on tv too.

I bow my head when I pass a Catholic church. I say a prayer whenever I hear a siren from an ambulance or fire truck. When I pass a road side shrine in memory of a dead person, I say a prayer. When I hear the obituary reports on the radio, I say a prayer. I say a prayer when I hear someone curse.

But when I see the Mass on TV, I don’t genuflect. I DO say a prayer though.

Why do you not genuflect to the Blessed Sacrament?

Wow do I envy you [not in a sinful way 😛 ]

I am supposed to be big and tough due to the job that I do. So when I am standing there in the pew snivelling and sobbing with my face flooded with water [not every time] I feel a real burk. I feel really foolish. But just cannot help the emotive feelings from the Consecration and distribution. Wow is sooooooo powerful.

Wish I could get a grip on my emotions and just act my age and not my shoe size
it’s a gift, don’t knock it, enjoy it while it lasts.

If I’m watching a live papal Mass, or any other televised live Mass, I definitely genuflect. Using the image on television is only a visual aid to help unite my heart with the actual event occuring some hundreds or thousands of miles away.

I’m not genuflecting to the television.

Many homebound individuals who cannot make it to Church follow the Mass on EWTN as if they were present. This is acceptable and it is truly Our Lord Jesus in the Euchrist. They are fulfilling their obligation to sunday Mass.
Sorry, but no they are not. Rather, they are dispensed from their Mass obligation by reason of infirmity, and the TV Mass is their opportunity to unite themselves spiritually with the Blessed Sacrament and the Church. But a TV Mass is not attending Mass, and no Sunday obligation is satisfied.

But yes, the Lord understands, and so does the Church, which is why she dispenses them from the obligation.
If I am watching the Mass on tv from beginning to end I will genuflect because I am participating and should show reverence to Our Lord - tevevision or not.
I would not, because I am not in the Presence. I do, however pause if I know the Consecration is live and spiritually unite myself with the Mass in that part of the world.

I dont do this, but I also dont think its wrong for Sixtus or anyone who does to do this.

I suppose that an online image can loosely be termed as a ‘sacramental,’ or “the object of which is to manifest the respect due to the sacrament and to secure the sanctification of the faithful.” But it doesn’t deserve the same level of devotion as the actual thing it represents.

I don’t believe that people should take pictures of the consecrated host. As I recall, when I was receiveing my first Holy Communion, that people were requested specifically not take photographs.

Recently, while looking for Eucharistic Adoration near my house, I came upon websites that offer “Eucharistic Adoration Online.” I thought it was a neat idea, like TV Mass, but then I started to have ambiguous feelings about it.

For example, here’s like this website where you download a still picture and sign up for a time to look at ‘unite yourself spiritually’ with a co-adorer, someone who is really in the presence of the Sacramant. I really don’t know what to think about this. It’s nice idea, I guess.

Or this one, which is a webcam on a monstrance. Like the commercial asks, “Is it real, or is it Memorex?”

I’ve seen mass on TV a few times, but I haven’t bowed or genuflected any time. I don’t ever feel like I’m in the presence of the Lord, but just watching TV. If I were to bow I’d spend too much time feeling awkward and wondering if it was wrong.

I also pulled up one of those webcams, same feeling that it was just an image. Furthermore, bowing to the computer just hits too close to home considering I’m addicted to it

I suppose if someone else was not in the same condition and felt they were truly in the presence of the Lord, then it would be ok. But that would be something only they could judge in their hearts. 🤷

👍

Thank you Hellisforeal too! 👍

The way I see it, a televised Mass is a representation of something that REALLY took place. Christ was when the image was recorded REALLY present. The image is finite but Christ is infinite. I am genuflecting to that which ‘took place’ in time but which is ‘taking place’ in eternity. 🙂

It’s interesting that this is even being discussed because last Sunday, I watched the Mass for Shut Ins

Now, I’m a stickler for kneeling during the consecration…but I didn’t while watching on television.

I did kick myself: I SHOULD have knelt. Just because I would not be taking the Body and Blood at that time, it was just as much the transubstantiation as if I were. That miracle doesn’t depend upon me.

So, from now on, when I see it on TV, I’m going to kneel or genuflect when appropriate!
