whitedove- i think that there’s a reason your option “i only get offended by what i perceive as disrespect” gets such high ratings. many of the posts here (at least on this section of the board) are started off in a rather disrespectful tone, and only get worse from there. there are many problems with many religions/churches, and oftentimes an adherent of a particular religion is even aware of said problems. but when somebody comes in taking pot-shots, well, it’s kind of like when somebody says something bad about your mother. even if you agree, the fact that somebody is slamming your family just brings up the hackles.
Hey ‘Catholic Lite’, how’s the country club??? 😉

Hi WhiteDove,
I try to think of it this way…Why would a non Catholic come to a Catholic Answers forum?
Um, maybe cause they like the smileys, the laughs, and MY POLLS!!! 😃

(and additionally, they have no life???)

This place is worse than heroin anyways. One fix and you’re hooked! :bigyikes:

The smileys are all over the net and hardly unique. The laughs are better watching re-reuns of Green Acres. Ergo, it must be your polls. Simple logic.

I could be wrong, though, Why don’t you start a poll?

Fr Ambrose:
One thing I really dislike is when people set up threads which seem doomed to be confrontational from the start - ones with titles such as “Catholicism vs Orthodoxy.” We could do without the “versus” - but maybe I am being too sensitive?
I’m with you, Fr. The other type of thread that’s generally destined for nastiness is the “get a load of this” type thread. Often these threads start out as a snippet from the news, and then get used as a launchpad for criticizing another church/denom/religion.

DearOwen,
And, your voice! You are a FREAKISH ABBERATION OF HUMANITY!!! Now wipe that quarry dust off your crummy clothes and mind your manners, boy!!!

No. I do however get a little annoyed with myself when I cannot defend my faith.

People are entitled to question our belies. We are entitled to defend them. Sometimes I can’t. this dissapoints me greatly.

Don’t mind the "I don’t understand"s, or the "I don’t believe that"s.

But the "you’re crazy"s or "you’re stupid"s do offend me, and the "you’re wrong"s come pretty close to fightin’ words. This is, after all, a Catholic forum.

Blessings,

Gerry

I have no problem with contra-Catholic posts, it’s the anti-Catholic posts that offend me.

I don’t mind you’re wrong, as in your interpretation of this Scripture is wrong. I do mind, no you’re wrong, Catholics do worship Mary, Catholics don’t teach this…

That gets a person put on my ignore list.

I do enjoy discussion and interchange about religion very much, I have learned a lot about the Catholic church from this forum and since my husband is Catholic it helps me understand his beliefs better.
I am offended and get a little shaky when someone who is antagonistic about Mormons attacks my beliefs with out of context things and downright lies. There are some very angry people in these forums and they make me get shaky and sick inside, so then I tend to respond like Father Ambrose says by shooting an arrow back. I usually end up apologizing and cooling off after a little time.
I think it is important to listen to what people are saying, and not come in with preconceived notions about what you have heard someone else believes. We should all respect what another person believes. We may not agree, but respect his right as he respects your right to your belief.
We are all children of God and He wants us to love each other.

I chose that I don’t like disrespect when I see it in the posts, but I would like to have chosen that I do get a little sensitive about it sometimes too. That’s when I lash out and say something I shouldn’t. 😦

I chose that I am offended when opinions become disrespectful. This is one place where Catholics should be able to discuss religion without disrespect. I expect it out in the real world- but on a Catholic forum? To the people of other faiths who post here: When someone invites you into their home and you accept the invitation- don’t be boorish.

Sometimes it’s hard because you come here just to be part of a conversation…any conversation on the Church because you long for it and don’t get it in your personal life. You make your little comment on a thread that interests you and you are anxious to get some good feedback, but you get a remark back that seems to attack you or your ideas. You may be a light-hearted person who is easy going and humorous, but you’ve come into a thread with more serious and deep thinking people. You smart a little and feel a little embarrassed. I like when disagreements are handled without personally attacking a person or making fun of their comments. It hurts to see call outs.

CHRISTOS ANESTI!
ALITHOS ANESTI!

I used to REALLY upset and angry at the ignorance and stupidity of some people when it came to knowledge of the Catholic Church and it’s many Rites. I was appalled that ANYONE could be THAT RUDE AND IGNORANT…

Now I just laugh and go on with my day…
