Just wanted to see if people are going to Mass while on vacation or out-of -town!!

Last year, I went and stuck it out even though it was one of the most bizarre Masses I’ve ever attended. The Priest said he “welcomed the divorced and remarried Catholics and homosexuals to the Lord’s Table”, omitted some of the Prayers of the Mass and finished with a rap song before the final blessing. There were other abuses as well, which elude me at the moment. I was really disappointed because I had gone to Confession (to a different Priest) at this Parish the night before, and was impressed by the encouragement and advice offered by the Priest who heard my Confession. I’m going back to the same area this September and will be going to a different PArish for Mass.

I just came back from a weeklong vacation to Wildwood NJ and had the pleasure to attend Mass at St. Anne’s R.C. Church. I love going to Mass while on vacation.

Last year’s vacation gave me the opportunity to attend a truly beautiful Latin Mass at The Baltimore Basilica in Maryland.

I intend to visit Hershey PA later this summer and I anticipate the opportunity to attend Mass at a local parish during my stay in “Chocolatetown USA”.

Thanks to God that here in Romania there are not abuses. Our parish priest is very condervative, he wears collar and the soutane (in romanian is “reverenda”, I don’t know the word in English, that black cloth/shirt which is weared by the priest).

And I go to the Mass every Monday, and during the week, I go often on Tuesday

Always. Not sure why/how people justify taking a vacation from worshipping God and receiving the Eucharist, unless they are spending their vacation working in a jungle somplace and there is not priest available 😃 …but, sigh, we know that’s not the case. I try to help our families by giving them information about local resorts/Catholic churches and the national 800 # for Catholic churches in the US before the end of the program year here. The rest is up to them and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Peace…

I think that we all should attend mass every day of obligation… God gave us the great sacraent of the eucarist… we dont want to put that to waste!

Yes, and I really look forward to visiting new churches.

In May, while in NJ, I got to go to my first Traditional Latin Mass since I was a little girl. 👍 We also went to a lovely Mass in an old Newark neighborhood and a bizzare First Communion Mass in a gym.

In Mexico (Cozumel) we went missed the Mass on the main drag so we went on into the neighborhoods and found a wonderful Mass. It was the most reverent Mass I had been to in ages, in terms of the priest and the congregation.

A few years ago, we were in California. The Mass was very odd and the priest refused to give me Communion on the tongue 😦 but there were nuns in the congregation in full habit. My kids had never seen nuns in person - almost all the nuns in TX dress incognito. It was great for them to see this and the church building itself was beauiful.

God doesn’t take a vacation, so why should I take a vacation from Mass? Besides, if I miss Mass, it seems like my entire week is shot.

The first thing I do on vacation is find a good, orthodox RC church (although next time I’ll try to find an Eastern Rite church, as well).

Always.

I try to attend daily Mass and that means even the days I travel either on vacation or business. Before I take a trip I try to find the Churches having Mass in the area using masstimes.org/ASP/ to help locate masses. I remember one time (in Wisconsin?) I was in a very empty Church parking lot when a sister came out and got in a car. I asked her was Mass being said. She said not here and gave me directions to a Church where Mass will be said. I found it, and a few minutes before Mass started the same sister came in. I believe that she had stopped somewhere to pick up other sisters. After Mass she came over and we chatted a little. It was a wonderful way to start the day. I do recommend a phone call the night before because the times are not always current.
When my wife and I were planning our Honeymoon, we found out that there was no Church on the little island where we would be staying. We had already booked the arrangements. We arranged to arrive a day late. There was some expense and some inconvenience but there were no options. I cannot imagine missing Mass on Sunday if there is anything I can do about it.

One of the niceties of going on Vacation, which I have been not able to afford to do for 8 years, is visiting churches I have never seen before and attending masses there.

Plan your trip around your daily masses and it will probably go smoother as well.

There isn’t a chouce that applies to us. We always try to go to Mass when out of town, I would say we go 95% of the time. Either on vacation or business. Like others have said before me. It is nice to see other Churchs. That is one of the nice things about being Catholic, no mater where you go you can find a Church. :yup:

The last vacation I was on I actually went every day except for the last day. I was on a cruise and they offered a Mass every day except for the last day of the cruise (Saturday).

It’s laudable to attend Mass while on vacation! Please, however, it’s even more laudable to plan for it by packing appropriately. I live in a popular vacation area, and you wouldn’t believe what people feel is proper church going attire (or lack of attire. . .)

I do the same thing as Charliemac and visit the masstimes web site. We always plan our trips so that we will not miss Sunday mass. BTW many of the church listings on masstimes have enough information that a person, moving to a new area, could make the selection a new parish much easier.

With www.masstimes.org availible I’ll usually print out the page displaying the closest results to where I’ll be staying, so if I need to improvise I’ll have the times and numbers to call if I need to figure it out…I think missing Mass for a good reason is truly becoming harder and harder.

“You can take a vacation from work, but never from God.” This was told to me my one of my Bible professors where I went to college. We are people of worship, and worship is what we must do. “My heart will find no rest till it finds it’s rest in you” Augustine.

I actually think I voted wrong here. If you are talking about Mass on Sundays while on vacation…most definitely, always, wouldn’t dream of missing Mass just because of vacation. I voted more on the lines of going to daily Mass while on vacation. We try to get to daily Mass even while on vacation IF we can.

I go to Mass everyday of my life----unless something serious happens like i can’t get to mass for some major reason, i will not miss mass even on weekdays

I always attend Mass while on vacation, and recall a number of churches from the places I visit repeatedly.

I live in Pennsylvania, but a few years ago I was vacationing in southern California. I had planned to attend Sunday Mass in North Hollywood, where I was staying, before driving up the coast. I recalled some good sermons at that church. But I couldn’t find the church in the neighborhood where I thought it was.

No problem, I thought, I’ll attend the Church of the Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills. I recalled some excellent lectors and cantors in that parish. But my mind was clouded, and I drove down Sunset Boulevard, instead of Santa Monica Blvd., and left Beverly Hills before I realized my mistake. (And there’s no place to make a u-turn on Sunset, once you leave BH.)

No problem, I thought, I’ll attend the Church of St. Martin in Brentwood. This was about a year after Nicole Simpson was murdered, and it was her parish, so I thought I’d say an extra prayer for her. I arrived just as Mass was starting.

Normally I sit towards the front, but the church was jam packed, and the only room was in the last pew, so that’s where I went. As Mass started, I noticed, from the corner of my eye, an old man entered the pew at the other end, but I was focused on the altar, so I didn’t give him a second thought.

When it came time for the Kiss of Peace, I moved to shake his hand . . . and recognised him as an old friend, who lived in Santa Monica. He had missed his preferred Mass, so he went “down the road” rather than waiting for the next Mass in St. Monica’s.

We hadn’t seen each other in years, so we had a nice chat afterwards, and I was certainly glad I was persistent in trying to find a church that day.
