The west is also where most of the worlds evil originates, we ‘pollute’ the rest of the world with our greed, lust, materialism, blasphemies, etc.

I truly believe the west is the nation God will destroy when he returns, it has really become a modern day Babylon. Sure there is some good here, probably lots of good people, but that has not shown to be enough to change things.
Both East and West have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. How do you know that good people have not shown to be enough to change things. I bet you there are lots of saints in the making all around the world.

Think of Jesus when He was arrested, crucified, buried and resurrected. After His ascension from the looks of it the world as the first century Jews saw it did not change much. The Jews were still under Roman domination and things were about to go from bad to worst with the destruction of the temple. Yet unseen by many the changes were beginning, changes so deep and fundamental that the world is changed forever.

While I find the West overly-materialistic, I, too, believe there are a LOT of saints-in-the-making here, too. I’m optimistic about the West long-term though not short-term.

honestly, and I dont mean to sound depressing or suicidal because I am far from it, do you guys feel you hate alot of life, in the sense that when shows are on, or sporting events, or regular ordinary things, you cant relate because they arent catholc. for example: say a sporting event comes on there is alot of hype and you like the sport but you somehow know there is a certain element of ungodliness to it all because people at parties are having sex and fornication or people are sort of making the events idolatry in and of themselves?
It’s good to be repelled by the secular culture, but it is a trap to fall into hatred.

i love how in european soccer you have players who come onto the field and give the sign of the cross and you know that most of the players that are playing are believers or they come from countries where it matters, whereas here sometimes the shows and things that are on are just so secular its disgusting

i really think that if it wasn’t for the church as being a physical structure , somewhere to go, God would not be worshipped at all, it just is not tangible other than the Church, everyone “believes” but its true belief in Jesus Christ that saves and thats ultimately the faith that is so easily down ridden in today’s time

I find myself detaching more and more from the world and I hope that my “hate” is the “hate” in the bible that speaks of hating the world because I am not of it, i do not want to hate people for no reason thats not my intention at all
This is really funny because I was trying to figure out where to put a thread with the idea of “Why to THEY hate US so much?” As I look more and more through the lens of Catholicism I realize I do not hate the secular world near as much as they seem to hate my fellow Catholics and I. When the Pope was in town I heard some really insensitive things both from friends and neutral people alike. Which is really funny since it always seems they the secular portion of the world is the most concerned with people being insensitive.
