Bishop Thomas C. Kelly

Bishop Joseph Aloysius Durick

Thanks all, I will add all these priests.

I note we are now up to over 40 priests including the 16 already on my list so that pretty much fills up a year, as I imagine during the year a few priests in my diocese might pass away or I will encounter some myself who need prayers, and I will also miss a few weeks because some weeks I don’t manage to complete the devotion due to travel or illness etc. so I want to leave a few of the 52 weeks open.

So I will cut off the 2019 Priest List here if you don’t mind, as I want to make sure I can pray for them all 🙏

If any of you would like to read more about the Flame of Love movement, under which this devotion falls, please refer to theflameoflove.org (international site) or flameoflove.us (US site).

Thanks again and I look forward to praying for all these wonderful priests weekly.

… or some subcategory like…
Speaking of subcategories, would you consider praying for the souls of priests who have sinned grievously against God and man? I have two in mind (knew them personally but did not suffer by them). I have rarely if ever thought to pray for them, but now I think we should.

I pray for sinful priests all the time. Last year I prayed for some sex abusers and some who stole money. Most of them were still alive though so they have to go on a different prayer list. I can only put deceased ones on this devotion list.

I have no problem with praying for people who do “evil” things. I spent several years doing capital defense pro bono and I have seen it all.

The homily yesterday encouraged any of us who make New Year’s resolutions, to look to the corporal and spiritual works of mercy; maybe choose to concentrate on one or two for this year, then two others for next year. At mass, the priest I named for your prayer list came to mind.

Following your lead, I intend to make a special effort this year to pray for all priests who have ministered to me in any way. 🙏 I pray the Holy Spirit to call them to mind one after another according to their need.

That’s a great thing to do!

I say this “Prayer for Priests” once a week. I got it from one of the parish rosary groups who says it after the Rosary. I just change all the “us” to “your priests” as that’s how the rosary group says it.

When going down the list of “I pray for faithful and fervent priests, unfaithful and tepid priests, etc.” I always include in the list “any priest who has ever given me the sacraments at any time in my life” and then I might name off specific priests I know who are ill or on leave of absence or have some other special need.

Father Jacek Szuster, 47, pastor of Most Holy Trinity Church in Augusta (Diocese of Savannah), died in Augusta, Georgia, September 4, 2018, after a battle with colon cancer.

Father Szuster’s body was cremated and Fathers Daniel Firmin, Mariusz Fuks and Adam Kasela will accompanied his remains to his native Poland. .

So I read the website (briefly), and aside from not seeing how much adoration time was required/requested, I believe I could pick up where your list leaves off. What do you think?

??? I’m confused. You mean the Flame of Love website? That’s just general information. I didn’t link to the specific devotion, it’s kind of buried in the materials.

You don’t have to do adoration for this devotion. It’s the Monday fast for the souls of deceased priests in purgatory. One priest’s soul per Monday. If you are really interested, please PM me and I will message you back.

Alternatively, you can pray for priests’ souls any time you want, or get a daily indulgence for a specific priest’s soul.

Yes! The late priest at our former parish, Father Dave Hilliard from Shippensburg Pa. He was such a holy and considerate man. He went out of the box when it came to giving the penitent a penance.

Let me tell you how I found out about his passing. We had moved out of state and about 8 months later I was in the area so that Sunday I went there for Mass. I walked in then knelt down and said my prayers. As I was sliding back into the pew I noticed a piece of paper at the end of the pew away from me that said “In Memoriam” on it. What’s this?, I said as I went to retrieve it and there right under those words “In Memoriam” was his name. I was shocked I tell you and saddened to no end. After Mass I called my wife and she had the same reaction. He helped us so much with the difficulties that cropped up in our lives and it was sad to hear of his passing.

A fond memory was when one time the altar servers didn’t show and since I was EMHC and already wearing my Alb I said I would fill in and help. Having never been an altar boy I said just give me the “high sign” and motion for when I should do this or that - he just laughed and said no problem! So there I was, a 50 year old man finally becoming an “altar boy”. Thanks for doing what you do.
