Ale or lager?

Right now I like Buffalo Sweat, an oatmeal cream stout.

But

I discovered a saint whose friars brewed Doppelbock or double bock, a stronger version of traditional bock that was first brewed in Munich by the Paulaner Friars, a Franciscan order founded by St. Francis of Paula.

I am not able to drink beer or alcohol anymore due to medical reasons but I used to have my favorites when I did.

I used to like the lighter varieties.

I preferred imported beers here in the U.S.

One of my favorites was Japanese beer.

I really liked the Sapporo Premium Beer. It had a very light taste.
 
I don’t like beer much.

I do enjoy Stella Artois ads. And they’re cidre is tasty.
 
My go-to beer is Samuel Adams Boston Lager.

If I’m choosing among many beers I don’t recognize, I tend to look for the amber ale. I like the flavor and the fact that they don’t tend to go overboard with bitterness or sweetness. Basically, it’s a relatively safe option that tends to provide some really tasty beer.

I also have a fondness for really dark beer. At German restaurants, I often find myself asking for whatever dark lager they have.

I am fond of wheat beers (weizenbier, hefeweizen). Of those brewed in the US, I would choose Sierra Nevada Kellerweis. Of those brewed in Germany, I’ll have any, or perhaps tour the country trying a few in each locality, and some Pilsners as well.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Sierra Nevada Kellerweis, but when I had it, it had a taste that I can only describe as “spoiled beer”. Maybe something happened with the batch or in transit.

That said, in general, I’m not a huge fan of hefeweizens. While I was huge fan of them and other wheat beers when I started getting into beer, I eventually gravitated towards other styles. I’m not even sure how it happened. I think I just experimented for a little bit with other styles, decided to have a wheat beer, and wasn’t a huge fan anymore.
 
So I am liking this Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat someone recommended. Thick, dark, mild. In a chilled mug on a hot day…Man!

I live a stone’s throw away from the France-Belgium border. If you know anything about Belgian beer, you’ll understand that it’s impossible to have a favorite. 🍺😀
