Do you have a home shrine/prayer corner?

Yes - our family has an oratory (room set aside for such).

Large wooden Crucifix hand carved from Germany, next to this is an Icon of the Holy Trinity and on the other side of the window is an Image of Our Lady. Sacred Scriptures on a old low dresser under the Crucifix and Icon - with a candle on a pewter stand that we light for our night prayer.

Next to this is our old desk for* lectio divina* (opens up - it is an old wooden school desk) and a chair.

Before all this there is a rug on the floor and two wood folding chairs. And all around is our (mostly) theological library. (there are some other images on the shelves…)

We are very pleased how it all turned out - and highly recommend doing such (as does the CCC)

Do a search. Lots of threads on this, and almost all of them loaded with pictures.

I do have it. Sorrowful mother, with Christ - Pieta. The crowning of thorns. St. Philomena, an and *archangel.

Well, in defense of the OP, those are old threads and shouldn’t be revived…😊
I just did a very short search and they would be at least a year old. No harm starting a new one.

I do not have a room set aside, but I am considering an area for setting up all of the “things” I would put there. The idea does appeal to me! 🙂

I have a corner in my bedroom. I use it when I pray the Hours, mostly evening prayer. I have a large hand carved crucifix, and large picture of Mary & Jesus, a small Pieta, candles and holy water. I had a kneeler made for me years ago and I say my prayers kneeling.

  • For personal prayer, this can be a “prayer corner” with the Sacred Scriptures and icons, in order to be there, in secret, before our Father. In a Christian family, this kind of little oratory fosters prayer in common.

Yes I have on my end table a Crucifix, my Rosary beads, holy water from Lourdes and a little prayer stone that says…

Good Morning!
This is God. I will be handling all your problems today.
I will not need your help, so have a good day!
I love you!

I also have various stand up holy cards of Jesus, the Blessed Mother, the Holy Family and many saints that I change every couple of days and place them around the sign. Then some reading material… Divine Intimacy meditations, Day by Day for the Holy Souls in Purgatory and Catholic prayer book. I pray the Traditional Divine Office here using my tablet.

I would like to start a prayer corner in my house, but are they strictly for Catholics or can others share in the joy of having one in their homes?

They are for any Christian who prays. We all should have a devoted corner, closet, wall or small room devoted for prayer and study. It’s where one keeps their Bibles, a cross, image of a patron saint.

Excellent! Thank you! 🙂
