Hello everyone, I would like to know who has got a kneeler at home… and if so, how you came to the decision to have a kneeler of your own. Where did you get it from? Does it come expensive?
I have done a bit of research on the internet and I have discovered that in the USA there are some good possibilities for individuals to get a kneeler. In Germany, however, this is not so common… I have already thought of just going to a carpenter and describe what I want and have it made according to my wishes.

I would love to hear from you… the exchange taking place here in the forums is great, I read here as often as I can in order to learn from other Catholics and therefore strengthen my own faith.

Thanks in advance for sharing!!!
God bless, Amanda

I hadn’t thought of it before… It’s a good idea. 👍

…What comes to mind is a little bush or shrub garden in the back yard, with a little kneeler nestled within it. 🙂

I’m in the US and I have one.

Yes it did cost a few hundred dollars, even though I windows hopped trying to find the cheapest one I could.

However, more recently I noticed some catalogues sell them cheaper now, like $150 or so.

I am uncomfortable with how these cost so much. Also, even though the company I bought it from promises good design, it was not very ergonomic. The knee rest is too high, so when I’m on it, my legs are not horizontal, so it causes stress there.

But, I got it, I use it, it was the cheapest at the time, and it does the job however imperfectly.

If you want one, there are some you can buy online that are just knee rests without the upright part. You could out it up against a small table in front of your prayer area. It’s cheaper, and the shipping is cheaper too.

Yeah, I’ve found out already, those are usually called “bedside kneelers” 🙂
Thanks for your advice, however!!

Why that?
Do you prefer to pray within the bushes?!

Why, if I had a big garden of my own and enough money to spend, I would even consider to have a small chapel out there; I guess that would be nice :crossrc:

Yes, my husband made one for my daughter, but she is on the road, so we currently have it at our house.

PazzoGrande, why do you think a prie dieu shouldn’t cost a lot? It’s a piece of furniture, and furniture is never cheap. Or were you referring to the fact that your prie dieu isn’t well-made and they should charge less for its shoddy workmanship?

I am no carpenter, but I do put together basic furniture for around the house. I intend to get a kneeler as well.

Since none are availbe for purchase where I am, I have decided to go the hardware, buy a few pieces of wood, and knock up simple kneeler together with some nails and a hammer.
Then I just throw a cloth on top of that, and thats it. Works out alot cheaper than a few hundred dollars.

I did not make it yet, as I have no time, but I will do it soon.

:D. I suppose that does sound a little funny, but I have a large family, and personal time is hard to come by… I do all my posting here from my cell phone, usually outdoors or before or after work.

…sitting down at the computer to pay bills, for example, is almost impossible with all the chatter, being I have four daughters. Also, I have a hard time not offering my attention to them when they want it. 😊

To pray, I need a quiet place. 👍

In my eyes, a kneeler is a penitential instrument. Penitential instruments are cheap. Hairshirts are a good example.

Because kneelers cost so much, they sort of turn into a luxury because of their cost, which goes against the spirit of penance.

That’s why I don’t think they should cost a lot.

That being said, I think they do cost so much because they aren’t mass-produced.

You can kneel on the floor or a folded up bath towel. I don’t see that special equipment is required.

Yes, I just throw a pillow down (bad knees) and get to it. Kneelers certainly look nice, but it’s a luxury for me, with the cost.

That’s true. But to have a designated area set-up for a routine isn’t a bad idea either. 👍

For a period of time, at my old parish in AZ, there was an room set-up for Eucharistic adoration which was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You just had to know the combination to get in…

But even with that, it took time to drive there, and while having little ones around again, I have time restraints, and new responsibilities. Some place private on my property, set up for the purpose of prayer makes sense. Now I just need a house and I can make it happen.😃

If I set it up in the back yard, a couple kerosine lamps and a kneeler surrounded by brush would be perfect. I think that’s what I’ll do! :). I’m thinking a little gazebo type thing would be good. I can build it myself.

Bought one for about $5 US at parish auction that they didn’t need anymore, but was still in decent shape.

We have one, my wife wanted it so we bought it. Now she is adding a hand painted icon with gold halo to it along with the rest.

I dont have one yet. I too do not want to spend a lot of money and shipping charges to order one from online. I love working with wood so I intend to make one. Interestingly, last year I had a beautiful moment with St. Joseph and the child Jesus while I was working on a bird house. It left me with chills and in tears.

Many old parishes are being torn down in some of the bigger cities, and the furniture is either put up for auction or going to be discarded. I know a priest who rescued a lovely old altar and tabernacle from an old church and had it restored and put it in his church when they remodeled. There my be such furniture in scrapyards, also. Look around.

I would love to have an altar and kneeler in my house. Hopefully down the road I can do that.
