Do you have a prayer binder?

I had an inspiration recently to create a prayer binder. It is a half-sized three-ring binder, with a velcro pocket just inside the front cover to hold a chaplet and rosary and a few prayer cards. I have typed, with beautiful font, my favorite morning prayers, my favorite chaplets, and a series of prayers for days of the week and created a St. Elizabeth prayer ministry prayer sheet to follow to pray for the expectant mothers of our parish. I also have pocket folders to hold my favorite booklets and pamphlets at the back. I am so pleased with this, and I decided to Google search to see if other people have posted pictures of such binders of their own. I found lots and lots of pictures and articles about Protestant prayer binders, but not much about Catholic homemade prayer binders. So I thought I would ask here. Do you have a prayer binder? Did you assemble it yourself? What sections do you have in your binder? What inspired you to create one? If you don’t yet have one, do you think you would like to also make one for yourself now?

I followed your links and it reminded me of a section that I still need to create for my binder: one for the holy souls in Purgatory! Now I have some more research to do. I need to find what prayers are most strongly suggested for daily recitation. Any direction would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
 
I don’t have a prayer binder but I think I will shortly! Great idea 👍 What I do have is a prayer journal where I have my family listed along with all prayer requests that I see or hear about. ALL OF YOU are included in that journal.

my prayer cards and notes and various things are in two folders … and then there are holy cards and prayers and loads of little things all over! as for your inquiries …
… yes, I have one or two.
… well … it’s not really assembled, but it is organized.
… sections: Left side has articles on the spiritual life from talks and the internet. Right side has prayers and writings on the saints, with smaller items and holy cards on top.
… what inspired it … well, just trying to keep track of some beautiful prayers.

Your idea is inspiring - I’m going to put together a real prayer binder. 🙂
 
My mama did. She hand wrote everything, so when she passed it was a lovely thing for us girls. We made copies of all her favorite prayers and Scripture passages and made 3 copies for ourselves.

I don’t have a prayer binder.

I have many small prayer booklets, so I just rotate them and put them in a large, clear, travel-type cosmetic case that I wasn’t using.

It came as a freebie with some cosmetics, and I already have other cosmetic cases anyway, so I just decided that I would use this particular case for my prayer booklets. It is the perfect size. It’s large enough, but not too large. I can see right through it so that I can choose what I want from it.

That sounds great. I love repurposing items. My binder and all its contents, both the organizing inserts and the booklets and such were repurposed; collected from where they were scattered unused around the house. The only “new” items were the homemade prayer sheets I typed up. I also found images on the internet that were available to be saved locally to my computer, and then inserted into the documents. So now my Chaplet sheets all have beautiful medieval or Renaissance images for meditation, too.
Teaching is my profession, so I rely heavily on binders, so it was only natural for me to apply the same method to my prayer aids! 😛

I’ve been thinking lately about a place to keep track of prayer requests; and I’ve had various spiritual journals or binders in the past. Don’t know if I’ll do an entire binder, but maybe a mini version. I know I need to track the prayer requests, there are so many.
 
Wow, Mommaree! I totally love this idea! I don’t have one, but I’m going to!!!

I did once make little prayerbooks by printing out prayers in a way that I could make little pages out of them and stapling them into “re-purposed” Christmas cards for their covers. My friend liked mine so much she asked me to make one for her as well.

But i have been wanting something more flexible (like for prayer requests) for a while. What a great idea and thanks for sharing it 🙂

Yes, I am always happy to put something to good use that I have around here that I haven’t been using. It is a nice way to save some money, and then something doesn’t go to waste, either.
 
Hello!

I have had an unoffical prayer binder for quite some time now. I had prayers that I loved scrawled or printed on bits of paper, and I would clump them all together and keep them under my pillow! However, I started having some neck problems because my pillow wasn’t all the comfortable anymore! 😃 I found an old binder, and my prayer binder started! 😛

I actually have a prayer notebook. I have the Litany of the Faithful Departed copied down, various prayers to the Saints, and a few Gregorian Chants so far. I do like your idea of typing them up in a beautiful font and then printing them out, as it would save a lot of hurt on my hands, and I would actually be able to read it. :rolleyes: Yes, I have terrible handwriting.
 
This sounds like a neat idea! I have some prayers and novenas which I copied onto Word, printed out, and placed in a clear book. However the clear holds some other things, like my goals, important things to remember. I place some prayer cards in the clear book, but since they’re smaller and of different sizes, they tend to move around. I was thinking if I should tape them or something to keep them in place.

As for prayer requests, I write them down in a notebook.

Here’s the prayer I like

Eternal Father,
I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said throughout the world today,
for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory,
for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the Universal Church,
those in my own home and within my family.
Amen.

Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great, that the following prayer would release 1,000 souls from Purgatory each time it is said. The prayer was extended to include living sinners which would alleviate the indebtedness accrued to them during their lives.

I love clear cases, both the vinyl flexible ones and the acrylic or other plastic hard ones. Use them for all sorts of things. I pick them up at garage sales and thrift stores if they’re clean and the price is reasonable. I just got a small hard-sided acrylic suitcase type cosmetic case. It holds my sewing basics like pincushion, pins, bobbins, etc. for when I sew with my friend at her house. That’s an excellent idea to use them for the small prayer books we all collect! 👍
 
I have had “prayer notebooks” or journals for years. I do like the one that have pockets in the cover. A holy priest, Father Santan Pinto, SOLT, often reminded us to “gather” our thoughts, goals, experiences, and prayers. He applied this scripture to this process: “He who does not gather with me, scatters.” Mt 12:30, Lk 11:23
