The Psalms are the most beautiful prayers to me besides the Mass, Our Father, and The Sanctus.

Just think: these are the prayers that Christ grew up saying and learning and living by. They’re prophecy, prayer, song, and praise all at the same time.
My favorites are: 1, 23, 51, 139, 150, 95, 29, and 88
What are your favorites?🙂

They’re wonderful, aren’t they? And every time I pray with them, I get something different out of them, depending on where I am/what I need on that day. That’s because God speaks to us individually through them.

Psalm 139 is my favorite.

Psalms Chapter 127
A song of ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD build the house, they labor in vain who build. Unless the LORD guard the city, in vain does the guard keep watch. It is vain for you to rise early and put off your rest at night, To eat bread earned by hard toil-- all this God gives to his beloved in sleep. Children too are a gift from the LORD, the fruit of the womb, a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children born in one’s youth. Blessed are they whose quivers are full. They will never be shamed contending with foes at the gate.
I pray this every day in the liturgy of the hours. 🙂 In the space of four weeks, you go through about 75% of the Psalms.

God bless,
Ut

How about 138? “I thank you, Lord, with all my heart…”

Lovely topic!

I only discovered the Liturgy of the Hours a few years ago, but I immediately fell in love with it and with the Psalms.

Some of my favorites:

1, 42, 51, 121, 122, 127, 130

The Divine Office is based on the orderly recitation of the Psalter–originally over a week (and still is in the Byzantine tradition).
