When my kids were younger we homeschooled and we chose not to have a TV at all. This was for about six years.I remember those years being busy, but peaceful years.

Does anyone else everthing we might be better off if we just got rid of our television sets and quit letting ourselves be brainwashed? Really started listening to what the Holy Spirit is trying to say to us? Instead of filtering God through all the nonesense on TV?

As hectic as life can be in the U.S., I’ve really come to appreciate eliminating noise pollution in the home.
I still listen to music from time to time and watch my two favorite shows online, but living without T.V. or cable has been a blessing rather than a problem.
It’s that much less to clutter my mind.
I also like not paying for Hulu plus. It’s kind of cool, waiting for my shows to be old enough to be free of charge. It reminds me to wait for what I want and to evaluate just how badly I want it.🙂

My husband and I have never had cable. We use hulu, netflix, and watch dvds on occasion, but we are plenty happy without television. Plus no commercials.
 
We dumped it in favor of a Roku box & a Netflix subscription. We also have an Amazon Prime membership, so that adds even more free programming available to us (as well as a free Kindle lending library). Once in a blue moon we’ll be sad that we’re missing a certain game or specific program, but it’s no big deal.

For those mentioning EWTN, there is a Roku channel for that network though I don’t know if it requires a subscription or not.
 
We canceled cable 4 years ago and decided to get Netflix about 2 years ago. We subscribed to Hulu Plus a few months ago. We also have a huge antenna in our attic for local stations.I will say I miss Food Network and HGTV but not enough to pay for cable again.
 
Nope. If we want to watch something specific we stream it. It takes less time, there are no commercials, we can do it on our schedule, and we never end up watching something that we don’t really care about.

Oh, and we’re young, just starting out, and cheap.

And although we didn’t do this to strengthen our relationship I am sure that it has. We spend more time laughing, talking, and just hanging out together than any other couple I know. We also have a better relationship than any other couple I know.

We do like to play video games together though, but that just requires an internet connection, just like streaming.
 
I would like to get rid of my cable. We have DISH and it costs us $86. per month. When we started it was $62.00. I do like to watch EWTN , the Catholic channel. I am an avid fan. I guess I could watch most EWTN on the computer, never tried it. Cable is just way too expensive. I do like being able to record my favorite shows and fast forward to skip the commercials.
 
If I could get just and only the Disney Channel and that’s it, then I would. It’s the only channel I watch. But, in order to get it I have to pay for an expensive plan. Disney Channel is on the computer but it doesn’t have everything I watch. Plus, I don’t watch news or other shows. My life is newsy and if I want to know something it’s on the internet- even what is going on in my town. Wish I could pay for Netflix or Hulu or any other net program. But can’t even afford a bowl of rice right now.

I think what you’re doing is great. Plus, I too stay more on the comp since all the people that I love are on it. 😉

I think we will try the no cable thing for a while, and just use NetFlix and Hulu, and buy a tv antenna for local stations. I will miss sports, but more family time and saving money will make it worth it.
 
We got rid of cable like 5 years ago. It’s amazing how much it liberates your living room! As soon as it just ISN’T THERE you don’t even think about it and you don’t even want it.

When we have a movie we want to watch, we use netflix and a few other sources.👍
 
We don’t have cable either…not even basic TV channels. Netflix and news on the radio/internet is what use…and the TV we use for movie-night or for the kids to watch videos.
 
I never had cable. I watch free over the air tv and my area has some channels that play old tv shows from the 50s, 60s etc. and old movies. I don’t use Netflix either. Rarely I’ll go to a see a move, but that’s only a few times a year. I go to the library and get movies from there.

I went that route a couple years ago. With cable and a DVR, I had hundreds of programs in queue to watch.

Now I use an xbox to watch Hulu, Netflix, and some Youtube. There are a couple more video apps but I rarely use them. More and more older movies are available on youtube now.
 
We have netflix but have never been able to get hulu downloaded, just a vicious circle. So netflix for entertainment and internet for news.
 
Well I recently gave in and got the internet again but I’m still not interested in cable. I haven’t had it in a decade and with all the reality shows on there I’m kind of glad I don’t even have to flip through those. I watch dvd more than anything.
 
I for one like cable. My favorite channels are EWTN, Animal Planet, Science Channel, and National Geographic. I also like watching NCIS and The Big Bang Theory.
 
I wuvz me kablez! I grew up with them, and I need them. :p;)

PS. USB 2.0 allows only 11 GB/sec transfer, so be careful with USB wifi cards. Only pick a real network card if you go for big speeds.

Oh, wait, you meant the TV… :o

I have no cable and no TV.
