Do you have children, if so how many and how old were you when you had your first?

Pregnant with #6, age 24, 25, 26, 28, 29 and 32. Didn’t marry dh until 9 months before baby #1 was born, so I don’t wish I would have been younger :). I am happy with God’s plans for us so far, how could I not be?, and am happy to see what He has in store for us in the future, although I really think I would be sad if I found out this was our last little one… children are truly blessings :), but if it is His will, then His will be done. We did not set out to have a lot of kids; I don’t know what God has planned for us (other than the 6 we have 🙂 ). God has given us what we needed along the way; in ways we wouldn’t have understood when we were starting off (lol, I always say I had no idea how people could have more than 1 when I had my first, and thankfully I only had one at that time, because I would have gone crazy if I had the 5 we have now back then, but we didn’t!). It isn’t that we knew we would have 6 nor felt at the beginning of our marriage that we were “special” and called to have more than 2 or 3 or whatever number, we are just going along the way, seeing what God has in store for us, one day at a time! We have been preparing for more kiddos along the way, just in case ;).

I guess if history is a guide, you could anticipate having 12 or more! Would you anticipate that you will at some point choose to avoid further pregnancies (ie. NFP)?

I am 36 and pregnant with #7. I will be 37 when this little one is born. We were married in 1998 when I was 21. I was still finishing up college so we did not have our first until i was 24. We did use ABC during this time. I honestly did not think anything of it at the time. It was just what you did when you weren’t ready for kids. I now feel completely different and have confessed this sin. When we were ready for a family, we actually had a somewhat difficult time conceiving and used clomid and other fertility meds. After our first son was born, we decided to space kids with breastfeeding. We actually did not think it would be easy to get pregnant since #1 was a bit of a challenge to conceive. Well #2(our oldest daughter) was born 1.5 years after the first when I was 26!!! I breastfeed her for a year and then our second daughter came along in 2005 when I was 28. I also breastfed her for a year and we used STM for a short time since we had a devastating house fire in 2007 that required a short reprieve:) once we moved back into our home, our second son was born in 2008 ( 6 days before the 1 year anniversary of our fire) when I was 31. Then breastfed a year, conceived, third daughter born in 2010 when i was 33!! Again breastfed a year, conceived, third son born in 2012 when I was 35. Again breastfed a year, conceived, and next baby is due in march 2014. We were actually using Marquette to avoid this time but didn’t quite get it right!! So basically every 2 years with the exception of a 3 year gap with our house fire. In the beginning I kind of assumed my husband would get a vasectomy at this point in our marriage. But we now understand how wrong that is!!

I completely agree with a previous poster about the wishful combo of young mom energy and older mom wisdom. I now have hip arthritis which makes running after kiddos more of a challenge but I definitely feel like I am enjoying each stage more now. When I was younger, I guess I was just going through the motions - taking care of kids and working. I don’t remember really enjoying any of it. Now I stay at home, and I truly appreciate each little smile from my bald 1 year old and all the “girl talks” with my 8 and 10 year old girls. I love it (most days!!)

I wish physically I was in perfect shape. If so, I would continue to have babies as long as God sends them. Although we could use a bigger house now, we have been very blessed financially. My husband has a good job and we can provide for them well. However, people have been questioning my husband about college lately, and I think it is making him a little anxious. I know God will provide for us!!

Sorry so long, but I do love telling my “story”!! I hope it blesses others. I strongly feel ditching the ABC and accompanying mindset has made our marriage sooooo much stronger. Sex is not just about satisfying the man whenever he wants it but really takes on a more spiritual, unifying dimension!!!

God Bless!

I married at 22.
1st child born when I was 24, 2nd at 26, 3rd at 29, and 4th at 33.
We would love to have more… God willing… when other issues (finances, in particular, after a job loss and waiting on the new company to be profitable) in our life can be improved!!! 🙂

I was 28 when I got married.

We were in an interesting situation because we got pregnant before we were married. My daughter was about 6 weeks old during our wedding.

Say what you will…I wouldn’t change the circumstances for the world. We converted to Catholicism and started RCIA a month or two after I found out I was pregnant.

My daughter was a week old during Easter Vigil when my husband and I were received into the Church and that was probably the most beautiful night of my life.

Anyway…my daughter is 17 months and I’m 30 weeks along with number 2.

Would I have liked to have started sooner and got married sooner? Yes and no. I’m not sure I was ready to be married and become a mother until I was in the second half of my 20s.

I met my husband when I was 24 and we were together nearly 4 years when we got married. It worked for us.

I’d like to have more children…but as of now it’s just not feasible. Both of us are unemployed and just trying to make ends meet and keep paying the Mortgage and keep food on the table.

In all reality we will have to wait about 5 years before we can have a third child since we are both trying to finish our degrees in order for someone to find a half-decent job.

I’d love more kids but I’m also realistic.

😃 I must thank the OP for this thread! Reading all the posts here encourages me to look forward to have 8-12 kids. I’m feeling happy and excited. May God continue to bless the family of all the parents that are posting in this thread. It is just beautiful; God’s work of art.

I have two children. I got married at 21, and 3 months later miscarried our first. I was 22 when my daughter was born. I miscarried our 3rd when I was 23. I had my son when I was 24. I don’t regret having children young. I have the energy to keep up with them, and am close enough in age I don’t have a huge generational gap, so I’ll actually be able to relate better when they are teenagers.

Chances are I won’t be able to carry another child to term. I would be thrilled to have more though. But I had a very bad infection after my miscarriage and I didn’t heal well because of it after having my son. 😦

If we need to use NFP we will and if we don’t we won’t. I don’t know what life has in store for us, but am happy with whatever number we end up with!

One of the things I’ve liked about having a large family, and having children both as a very young mother, and much later, is that I’ve been able to offer both through the years. And when/if I run out of energy, they have their older siblings who are full of it!

I have no children because I was severely abused )physical and emotionally) as a child. The wisdom says that those abused turn out to abuse their children. And I did not want to carry on the cycle.

Now it is impossible. I am too old and have prostate disease.

I agree, and the older ones always help. I don’t think I ever folded a diaper after baby 4.(didn’t have throw away ones then.) And I had 9, (7 living). They used to help as soon as they could and I always included them in the care for the new baby. My husband was ill for the last couple of years before he died and I thank GOD that my children were able to help me out so much. I had all boys and they all knew how to cook, do laundry and everything else about running a household and caring for the littler ones. They make fine husbands and Dads now. God Bless, Memaw

well, let’s see.

I married at 43 (my wife was 35). our first child was born when i was 44.
we have 4 children - 8,7,6 and 4.

while, at the time, i would have liked to have had children earlier - i didn’t meet my wife until later - and we are blessed with an amazing group of children.
