Do you have evidence for the power of the mind?

Every time we make a decision to do something or resist temptation we demonstrate our mental power…

I know from experience that the power of thought does affect the body. When I practised self-hypnosis I induced a light trance. The evidence? I saw two blisters on my arm which had been against a hot radiator and I had felt nothing at all.

Imagine showing a television to a lost tribe of people who have had no contact with the outside world. Now try explaining to them that the picture and sound of the television comes from broadcasting companies. The tribal people would probably look at you like you were nuts, insisting that the sound and picture were originating from within the television set itself.

Now, rethink where inner voices come from? Might it be that these voices to are originating from afar, and not a product of our brain?

It’s interesting to note that human beings make great television antennas. I do not think this is coincidental.

I have posted a new thread related to your point. 🙂

If you’re asking about “ESP” examples: telekenisis, telepathy etc. there is no evidence for this type of thing. These concepts come from fiction and wishful thinking. Man has looked for magic for as long as he has had a mind.
to dabble in this area and try to control it may be a grave sin.
Telekinesis is true and evident in a limited sense insofar as we can move and command our own physical bodies. What is not evident is if we can remotely control physical objects outside of our bodies.

A good point, Robert. In our secular society materialism tends to make even Christians sceptical of any intangible phenomenon. Yet without the power of the mind we wouldn’t have insight into anything whatsoever! Electrical impulses in the brain are a hopelessly inadequate explanation of the intellectual, moral, social, artistic, scientific and spiritual achievements of humanity. From the absurd to the sublime… 😉

There is plenty of evidence for scientifically inexplicable answers to prayer for persons with an incurable disease…

Yet there are Christians who allow their reverence for science to outweigh non-sensory evidence…
