Do you have to add extra days to a novena if you include a new intention in the middle of one?

One begins to pray a novena to a saint for the intention of their best friend, Jimmy.

This intention goes on for 2 days. On day 3 the person also adds the intention for his other good friend, Ricky.

Would one have to pray two extra days for Ricky after the novena for Jimmy was completed, or are new additions given retroactive blessings through the novena?

I would think you need to add the days.

You should probably just wait until the end of the original novena before adding new intentions. That way you would do two back to back.
