Do you know anything about Saint Teresa of Avila?

Yes You! If somone were to ask you who she is about or might give a comment on what’s special about Her, would you have anything to say? I’m just curious who doesn’t know much about her and who does? Who has devotion to her? Anyone been to her area of Spain?

Why is she special?

Yes…she is on my screensaver in the computer: Todo se pasa…( everything passes…)
St Teresa of Avila is special for me.
And by those things,her relics were in the Adoration chapel where I adored during several years abroad…

Does anyone know or can anyone guess the story behind the prayer card image without looking for it?? It’s a cool story. Mother Angelica had at least one similar experience that I can think of.

St. Teresa was a Spanish Carmelite nun who was a mystic and visionary. She was a friend to St. John of the Cross, founded the Discalced Carmelite Order, wrote books on prayer that are read and studied even today,and had a wonderful, down-to-earth sense of humor. She’s also a Doctor of the Church. In other words, she’s awesome!

She’s my patron saint but I don’t know much else about her. When I was in Catholic grade school in the 1950s, St. Therese of Lisieux was the popular St. Theresa and the one everyone prayed to and knew about. No one knew who “my” St. Teresa was.

Sadly, I didn’t know today is her feast day. Thank you for letting us know,

I like them both, for sure. God’s providence, made big Teresa and little Therese two of the most prominent of saints in the Carmelite Order and two great saints for all the Church. They both had very different personalities, but I’m pretty sure they would have got on very well with each other. 🤔
 
I learned quite a lot about her on a pilgrimage tour of Spain, where she is very revered. She was from a wealthy family and was well educated and quite assertive. She wrote a great deal on meditative prayer and did a lot of things to reform the convents of her day. She was also a bit of a mystic and saw Jesus. Overall a very interesting Saint who in recent years has been overshadowed a bit by the other St. Therese of Lisieux.

For those who do not know, Teresa had what is called the spiritual gift of levitation. There were times during her prayer that her fellow sisters witnessed to very visibly rise above the ground.
 
I found a good little video by Father Barron, speaking about her and why she matters for us and can help us in our own spiritual lives through the example of her own life and her wiritings…

Forgot to say I know the prayer card story, plus I can read French…it’s a neat story, I’ll leave others to look it up themselves.

I didn’t know about Mother Angelica, but St. Therese of Lisieux also had a similar experience.

I pick it up again from time to time but generally get somewhere into the fourth mansion and feel as though I’ve wading into a swift and powerful river a bit too far…

It’s hard to fathom deeper.

I suspect she was actually more beautiful than the artist painter her, but I might be mistaken. She was known for being quite attractive. In the DVD there is a place where the artist has finished painting her, and she says, "you have painted me all rummy eyed. " I think she was being serious. People do funny things. Maybe he thought a saint should not be so pretty or something.
