Do You Know How Bad the Dechristianization of Europe Really Is?

I read in a reputable book written in the 90’s that stated only 12% of the population of Rome attends Sunday mass. That really does kind of shock me. What about you?

Do you think it will continue like this? I have read that when Christianity loses ground, the diabolical gains ground. I wonder if sometimes the problem is much worse than we Sunday attending Catholics realize, living in to some degree a bubble, though that may be a bit of a stretch.

Yes it is shocking that the pillar of Christianity and Western Civilization is becoming this ‘Post-Christian’ society that most European countries advocate. We may be living what is described in Revelation: ‘And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be loosed from his prison and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth’

Practicing Catholics are a minority.

Even in the times when Europeans were required to attend Church, many of them were there against their will.

Many U.S. Citizens file tax returns against their will. Some people attend Church b/c they want to be seen as important.

What has changed you may ask. Hell, I don’t know.

Yeah. I think that Christianity as a whole is in a nosedive. But to be honest, I’m not scared. Remember Matthew 16:18. Christ promises that the church will not fall.

Nobody ever went broke documenting the Fall of Civilization.
Did you ever wonder why there are so many disaster movies?
If there are any Catholics or Protestants “living in a bubble”, thinking Christian belief and practice was doing well in the West, I am curious where these bubbles would be.

OK, we know things are going downhill in Europe and North America. It is extremely well documented. How about news about islands of success, in Italy or elsewhere, where Christianity is expanding. Then look at these situations in detail, to see what might be put in practice in your neighborhood.

I am not so interested in “what the bishops should be doing” as I am in what laypeople have been doing. People like posters on CAF.

Maybe we should do what the Mormons do. That would be interesting.

They go out on mission going door to door in some place. Two persons at a time and they witness to people. (just brain storming)

No. I think that using social media would be more effective.

I live in a thriving Catholic community. This may sound politically incorrect, but an entire thriving clan seems to be built on the shoulders of a very few solid men. Even just one solid, humble man can affect hundreds powerfully. That is why very few men are active in their faith… the devil knows how powerful they can be. The fight is real.

Piggybacking on what Daisy is saying…I wonder how much impact the proliferation of pornography over the internet has impacted Christianity throughout the west. Obviously it’s a nail in the coffin, I would think, anyways.

I read somewhere that 1% of Londoners go to church on Sundays. I wonder percentage are practicing Muslims though?
Scratch that – it’s 1.4 % of ALL England who go to church on Sunday.

1% to any church or Catholic Church? That is pretty terrifying in a way. Deeply troubling, to be certain.

Guess we need another St. Patrick. And a few other great saints.

We’d better get to work then… living holy lives and giving great example!
