Do you know of a book that lists the Christian denominations?

Years ago a friend showed me a book that gave an explanation of all the major Protestant demonimations. The book explained their history and their basic theologies. I was wondering, for the sake of my own studies, if anyone knew what this book was called, or knows of any such book with similar contents?

I do not know what book your friend shared with you, but a book that contains similar information is Handbook of Denominations by Frank S. Mead, and is available for purchase from Catholic Answers (contact information).
