Please be honest. Don’t go looking it up, and then put down “yes.”

If you don’t know the name of your bishop, though you may have seen him, then please respond “no.”

I hope to get a lot of responses, just to get a good representative cross-section…

I’ll reveal my purpose for this poll later when I return. I need to be off for several days, and hopefully there will be a lot of responses by then.

Blessings,
Marduk

Actually, this is interesting for me. I got to a Catholic High School, but it’s not my diocese even though I probably go to more Masses there than I do in my diocese. So I know the Bishop of the diocese at my school but believe it or not not my own Bishop.

Wow, I really need to look that up.

Our diocese currently has no Bishop. I can name the last several, though, in order, (all those I’m old enough to remember) and the current diocesan administrator.

Daniel Cardinal DiNardo has my vote for the next Pope…oh wait…I don’t get a vote…darn…

I know who my bishop is AND my archbishop, AND the name of the one who is to replace him, next year.

Yes - but only because I have met him and he is mentioned often in Mass 👍

I know mine. I’m pretty sure he’d recognize me too, although I’m not sure if he remembers my name.

Archbishop Carlson has been here a little over a year. He’ll be at a Holy Hour at our parish tomorrow. Before that Raymond Burke was here for a few years. I met him a couple times, once when we dedicated some additions to the school, and when my mother’s cousin died. He was a monsignor, and Archbishop Burke said his funeral Mass. Archbishop Rigali said his mother’s funeral Mass a few years earlier.

I think most Catholics in St. Louis know the names of our past archbishops because schools, hospitals and seminaries are named after them all over town. Even non-Catholics would recognize most of the names, like Cardinal Glennon (children’s hospital), and Bishops DuBourg, Rosati and Kain (high schools, Rosati-Kain being a two-fer).

Yup, I know Archbishop O’Malley is my bishop and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him once. However, being in a diocese of 1.8 million Catholics its hard for him to get around to everyone.

Archbishop Burke was here before he was in St. Louis. I knew him when he was still “Father Burke”, and he knows my dad fairly well. He comes back to town on occasion.

If you go to Mass on Sunday, you should hear the name of your Bishop in the Eucharistic prayer, and perhaps see his name in the bulletin. If you are registered at a parish, I would think you would receive mailings with his name on them. A lot of Bishops are in the media frequently, are interviewed on TV and radio, and are quoted in the newspaper. On this forum, I would be surprised if a large percentage didn’t know the name of their local Bishop.

It’s always interesting saying the Eucharistic prayers after a bishop has left. It takes awhile for some priests to not automatically say his name, particularly when there is no bishop in the interim.

Our Bishop is fairly “hands on” - he is always out and about, and making his voice heard in the public square. He even has a column in one of our daily papers. I’ve met him several times, and even sat with him at the same table for breakfast at a conference one time. 🙂

Bishop Daniel Jenkey of the Diocese of Peoria (IL). At least, I think that I spelled his last name right…

Before that, it was Bishop Thomas Doran of the Rockford Diocese (IL).

I know who my bishop is, in that our diocese is also currently “between-bishops”, and I know who the immediate two predecessors are by name and sight, and the preceding two by name.

Here in Seattle we have Archbishop Alexander Brunett, with two auxiliary Bishops, Bishop Joseph Tyson, and Bishop Eusebio Elizondo Almaguer.

I can go one further…I not only know the name of my Bishop, but I also know the name of our Pope! Ha! got you all beat!

I certainly do know my Bishop, well.Bishop Crispian Hollis of Portsmouth Diocese. We have met on many occasions. He confirmed my sons & neices. He has concelebrated Mass at our parish on occasions.I had the great pleasure of attending Chrism Mass last year (could not make it this year). He is even on my e-mail list & we have e-mailed a couple of times. He is a very holy man and it is a great honour fo rus to have him as our Bishop.

Know my bishop by name and reputation only (but I have only lived here 10 months). Knew the bishop of my last diocese (he didn’t know me, even after a year as a seminarian for a religious community in the diocese, but that’s another story), and the Cardinal in the archdiocese where the seminary was located, and the bishop of the diocese I lived in before that. (I can name the predecessors in two of those as well as one or two of the auxiliaries in the archdiocese).
